What other forums? BOC is the only other 1 I post to but even there the look on my little boat as more a toy than a real boat.

I much prefer this forum . It is very difficult being a woman in the boating world as I find we can be judged harshly for what we don't know.In this forum I have found most respondents to be polite , helpful and patient. This is just like the guys down at the marina on my dock, terrific guys who don't look down their noses at me just because I am female . There is the odd bozo but that is the exception , not the rule.

Re: Which forum is better?

I have seen many forums, some that haven’t been mentioned in this thread. Navigator has it right in his post above. Overwhelmingly, this forum is a community of people that genuinely want to help. Collectively, the knowledge here is fantastic, and the folks here are friendly.

boatdiesel.com is the only forum I pay ($25/yr) to participate in. It is only marine diesel, nothing else, so it does not compete with iboats.com, but rather compliments it.

Something to be aware of, some of the boating forums will install spyware (tracking cookie) in your computer’s browser cache if you don’t have cookies blocked. The spyware should not be installed unless you click on a sponsor’s link, but some forums automatically install the spyware when you visit their site. I think the forum owner gets paid a commission based on any sells if the tracking cookie is on your machine, or something like that.

Ditto.

Even though this is predominantly a U.S. site I do enjoy seeing posts by people from all over the world, the 'i' in i-boats should stand for international!

Aldo

I got no reason to go anywhere else, you folks have benn really good to me. I wish I could be half as much help to new folks who need help as some of you are.

Why you'd want to spend your time helping people and actually doing research, and hanging with them until a problem is solved without even meeting the folks you help (much less getting paid) is an amazing thing to me.

I look at BoatUS from time to time (I believe that membership in the organization is a good deal) they seem to be more geared to cruising and cocktail recipies then to tearing into an old outboard. I give kudos to the people on the IBoats forum for their willingness to share their experience with others

Re: Which forum is better?

Considering the iboats forums aren't explicitly restricted to a certain type of boater, we do seem to have mainly smaller (under 25') powerboaters in here, and the the thing I like is that it also seems to be a bunch of people who do NOT represent the "rich boater" side of the world. Many people do their own work - people are buying and fixing boats and motors. Most seem to be watching their costs and are concerned for getting value for money. Most seem to be hard-working people who actually have lives outside of boating (well maybe a little anyway :).

All in all, it's a great forum... as least for me.

Re: Which forum is better?

Having been a sporadic visitor at many fora, iboats.com is the first where I have actually become somewhat active. There seems to be many people here who possess real knowledge and still have their feet firmly on the ground.

I am glad I found this forum, and appreciate all your help and input so far.

Re: Which forum is better?

I visit all the forums I know about from time to time. It's true that some favor one part of the country or one type of boating but there's much to be learned from all. :)

BTW: You don't have to pay to post on BoaterEd or The Hull Truth, but they do encourage donations. BoaterEd is sponsored by a marine supply company and is pretty picky about users posting links to competitors.

Not really, but if you have a question on marine sanitation, plumbing, or shore power, that's one of the best places to post it.

I enjoy iboats for much the same reason as Dunaruna states above.

Even found some good guys here in NZ as well as recommended others to this BB.

Love it and addicted.
There you are, I'm halfway to cured already.

Peter
