Can anybody take a look at the parts diagram for 1988 225's and tell me which gasket stops water from coming up into the lower cowling?

I think it's probably this one, 48 0333434 SEAL but it might also be 114 0398200 SEAL ASSY., Exhaust hsg.

Try them both but I'd say 398200 is your best bet.

Look at the seals and see which one looks bad and replace that one. You may also be getting water injestion from some place else.

The #114 is the main seal, the #48 is more of a 'bumper'.
But remember water getting in has to get out again. Those seals are more of spray protection than proper seals.
If you seal off the lower cover completely, it may be filled up. Moisture/water will even enter through the air-intake, shift-rod seal, PT cabling area etc.

The #114 is the main seal, the #48 is more of a 'bumper'.
But remember water getting in has to get out again. Those seals are more of spray protection than proper seals.
If you seal off the lower cover completely, it may be filled up. Moisture/water will even enter through the air-intake, shift-rod seal, PT cabling area etc.

Right now if a wave manages to splash higher than the bottom of the lower cover salt water gets in all over the place because there is only like a 1/2 inch gap in there.
