Re: Maiden Voyage

That's probably all the 5 will give you.

Paul,

When you push your sailboat with a 5 HP, would you say that from 1/2 throttle to wot, the rpm & speed will remains near same, or with slight little variation ?

Re: Maiden Voyage

Luis,

Possible, if you are over propped, and at max rpm for that combo. How does it work on a lighter boat? OTOH, check compression. If it's low, that's all you will get.

This M5B oldie was severley canibalized by previous sailor owner, have changed all tank's rubber mounts & throttle arm rubber bushings, installed a complete rope start lock system and carb air baffle which didn't existed at all. To take the nail out, went for a pressure test with a Snap On pro tester, at third pull the needle jumped to 112 psi, two more pulls and the needle went to 125 psi and remained there for more than 1/2 hour without no pressure lost whatsoever.

Dilema: manual states max 80 psi but pressure meter reads way high. Probably that exaggerated reading was the result of testing a cold engine ? Went for 1 hour spin, engine fires right up, has excellent inmediate response to throttle while in neutral, in gear, still can't better the final speed or rpm from medium passed to full throttle, tomarrow will check if prop is slipping inside hub, fingers crossed!!

The Culprit was found

The Culprit was found

After marking a red fingernail paint line from hub to prop body went for a spin, placing myself as bow mask, finally got the small sib on plane for 5 minutes then bogged down, removed prop and Oh Boy, problem was inmediately detected, marks did not correponded, so prop slip. This had to be the culprit as the engine revs nicely at neutral.

The standard pitch is 8, question : if 8 is no longer available and using the 5 HP engine with a fibergalass small dinghy to go from dock to sailboat and potting around as not no row, which pitch should I go for, 7 or 9 and why ?

All 3 props are still available. You can order the 7 or 8 or 9. As usual, you want to get to full WOT RPM. 7 will give you better hole shot, 9 more top end when no waves, etc.

Paul,

Was checking I boats marine store, the Solas Amita alternative are not available according to their web page and the standard 8 is not being offered, just 7 & 9. Anyway what is the cost of a original 7-8 pitch Tohatsu prop ?
