thanks for all the knowledge. i have got to say that this has got to be the best web site i have ever found for info. i tried others for auto info and some was helpful but nothing like this one. i really like the tracker all fish. i have never rode in an alluminum boat so im a little skiddish of the purchase plus unsure about the economy.

An hour meter tells you how many hours are on the meter. It may or may not reflect how many hours are on the motor. Lots of people are leary about motors that have exceptionaly low low hours. A 6 year old motor that has been run 10 hours a year? While very possible, keep in mind that sitting is one of the worst things you can do for an outboard.

That's why I checked the carbs for sticking floats or leaks, put in a new impeller, lower unit oil, new plugs, checked all hoses, electrical connections, prop and skeg wear and marveled at how corrosion free and clean it was. ;);)

The only mfgs I'm aware of that did away with model yrs are merc and yamaha but the mfg date is still on the motor. There is NO friggin way I'd pay 2008 prices for a 2 yr old motor. The 2 yr old "new" motor would have to have deep discounts or I'd find a current yr built motor for the same money. Neither will I buy a used motor represented as a 2008 that was mfg 2 yrs ago. The no model yr policy deal isn't being received well by most customers when told. I've heard more than a couple complain about it and can count two customers who walked from a motor purchase when told and two angry customers who returned their 2006 mfg motors sold in 2008. All of these motors were small mercs. It's a bum deal for consumers.

And I will add is one of the reasons a "new" 2006 mfg motor isn't as good as a "new" 2008 mfg motor.
