It's a MC-1 (aka Mercruiser One drive). There is no such animal as a pre-alpha. That is what a lot of DIYers decided to call Mercruisers outdrives before they were called Alphas, but it included the 1EZ series, the MC-1 drives, and the R and MR drives and they are not all the same.
