Which Power Pack 9.9 HP 1997 Evinrude?

Looking on this great web site I see I can purchase a new Power Pack for my 9.9 Evinrude from CDI, Sierra, and Mallory.

I know the name Mallory and it is a lower cost brand. CDI is the most expensive, but we're not taking "big bucks" here as the difference is about $10. Is there any opinion on which make is best, or better?

I listed the three units in my original post as those are the units offered by the iBoat sponsor(s) - assume that's what we link to when we "click" on parts from the iBoat home page. I am, of course, happy to support sponsors with my business.

That said, I can also get the OEM Johnson/Evinrude power pack for $77 elsewhere - so I'd like to add the OEM unit to my three listed 3rd party suppliers. I suppose J/E has the OEM has its unit made by one of 3rd part suppliers, not made my J/E. The fact that the OEM PP failed with no more than 200 hours on it (assuming my trouble shooting is correct) encourages me somewhat to go 3rd party.

I have replaced a few powerpaks on motors and used CDI...no problems yet..plus they have good tech support.....I have heard lots like the CDI over the OMC

I have used all the suppliers you mentioned, and did not have problems with any of them. Support the site and get the power pack from here.

I have bought all my power packs from Iboats....and they ship fast....and good service....I have not used any sierra's or Mallory's......not that they are bad..but the CDI seemed well constructed with nice connectors..my 20hp has a Sierra on it ..has been on for 5 years and no problems...

I received and replaced the Power Pack today.

The engine how has a strong spark, and I started it three times for a short couple of seconds run as it is out of the water. I'll try to get the boat out to a lake next week and give the engine a full check-out. I may fish too as taking the boat to a lake and back takes more than an hour.

Thanks to all who helped and encouraged here on the iBoat forum - the Shop manual which I got from my public library also help a great deal as it gave me pictures, diagrams and numbers.

I hope will continue
