Hi. purchased a newer boat. It is a 14' fiberglass boat v hull type with console. Hull weight is 260lbs. I have on it a 1994 Yamaha (i think it is a 1994). It is a 20 hp long shaft manual start and tilt. The plate on it states model 20 MLHS and the serial # 6L3 L 303125. It was imported for Japan to Canada. The prop on it need to be replaced as it has taken some damage. I need to know what would be the best fit

Here are my questions

1. First is my motor really a 94', I only find props for a 96-97
2. The prop I have now is a 9 7/8 X 10 1/2 3 blade. It is beat up and needs to be replaced. Not sure if it is the recommended prop
3. When I am in the boat I can get on plane and top out nice and flat at 22 MPH. I can travel 1-7 mph not on plane and then once on plane I have to maintain 15 mph or greater.
My wife and dogs get in the boat, Can't get onto plane at all and top out a 8 mph. My 15 hp evinrude on a 14' alumium still does about 12 mph with the same gang. and it only weight about 110 lbs less.
4. I understand that I may need to play with the trim, but any suggestion would help as I am for sure getting a new prop, just want the best fit for me.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Which prop do I need for my Yamaha

Are there ANY part numbers on your current prop. Sounds like you have a bit to much pitch as you have no mid/low range power. You need to drop down to a 9 pitch.

Re: Which prop do I need for my Yamaha

thanks for the feedback. I do not have the model number of the prop with me. My local yamaha shop also suggested that I drop to a 9 1/4 x 9P. I also read in other post about adjusting the anti cavitation plate even and parallel with the bottom of the boat, I think i am off by an 1 ". Hope that will help. Thanks again
