Hello

I have a 2008 Glastron GT-185 with the original aluminium prop. I have the 4.3 Liter Volvo Penta Engine.

I want to replace the original prop by a 4 blades stainless steel propellor. Can anyone advice me on the brand and size?

Thanks

Re: Which prop for GT-185

Hi,
I'm going from memory here...

I have the exact same boat with the 4.3 Volvo. I believe it came with a 3 blade 23 pitch aluminum prop. With that prop the boat is fast (over 52 MPH) but struggled on hole shot with a loaded boat and pulling a large tube. So I bought a 21 pitch 4 blade aluminum Solas (Amita4?) from Iboats.

The 21 pitch was a little better on hole shot and didn't lose much top end. Unfortunately, I bent that prop the 3rd time out. I decide to try a 19 pitch aluminum 4 blade Solas. That was the best prop for me. Much better hole shot. I did lose top end speed, however, my main goal was to pull and the 19 was the best for that. I do have to watch RPMS at WOT as the boat will over rev with the 19.

You have to decide what your goals are but if you are definitely going stainless my guess is that a 21 pitch 4 blade is a good choice. I am quite happy with my Solas aluminum props even though they are on the inexpensive side. No experience with Solas stainless.

Hope that helps.
