Which trailer is better ?

I currently has a DUAL axle trailer with the smaller tires 5.80 x 8 made by tee nee for my 78 Starcraft Islander 22 footer. I have a chance to buy a Galvanized trailer that appears to fit my boat but it has larger tires and is a SINGLE axle model.
My old tralier needs a sandblat job and paint to make it look good again and would cost me $500.00 to get it done. I can get the Galvanized tralier to $300.00 and never have to paint it again. What do you think ?

Don't forget the trailer has to fit the boat, as you said it appears to do, but it also has to have the weight capacity to carry the boat. I have no idea how much a rigged and loaded 22 ft. Islander weighs.

500 bucks seems alitte high. Can't imagine it would cost more than 300 bucks to repaint a trailer. .02

yep that was high I made a call and another outfit said they would do it for $350.00 with epoxy paint...

^^^^That's the ticket! The $300 galvanized trailer would most likely still need some work and is a complete unknown. A $350 epoxy paint job is saving money, in my opinion. Your original post seemed to say the current trailer works fine, just ugly. Not for long!

I have AKU 1500R beatch trailer with single exle and 185-14C tires (4,5bar)... Trailers is 6,5m long and works with 22,5ft 1900kg boat. (i will add second axle when getting 1 for cheap) "damn expensive here"
I think ur boat is littlebit lighter so single axle shoud be ok.

Galv are nice, and if the trailer fits, having larger wheels(less Rev's) is better than spinning 4 donuts at 65mph?

Also, a drill and sanding bit and some Rusto doesn't cost $300-500 dollars. With a little effort, you can do it for less than $50 bucks or so.

id ditch the dinky tire rig and go to the galvanized if its in good shape

For a 22' rig I'd go with whichever trailer is rated for the most weight.

It will probably be the double-axle...any info on this?

The Galvanized trailer gets my vote.

While paint looks good for a few years, the Galvanized trailer will last much longer.

I am all about Galvanized. You can't paint the inside of a trailer.

I also prefer single axle to double for handling and many other reasons, but that is driven by boat size/weight.

Isn't that boat aluminum? I had a 94- 191. I think the reason for tandem axel's on that trailer is because of the smaller tires, which would have a lower axel rating. The single axel with larger tires will probably have higher axel load rating. Go with the galvanized if load cap. is large enough.
