Now that isn't that the way I heard it the first time. Curse this memory. :p

Well, it's 4:AM and I've been awake since 3.

I have a headache. I took no caffiene after 3PM, I took no naps (I did go back to bed at 7:30 and napped 'til 9:30).

I am making coffee. I am gonna have a big breakfast and when I get drowsy I will go back to bed for a couple of hours or until I wake up. :(

My doc told me that otc stuff isn't good for regular use. Things like Tylenol PM don't give you rem sleep. He put me on ambian (I know it's a perscription) I take a half occasionally. I don't want to get hooked. A couple times a month if I've had a really bad night the night before I'll take half of one. I do okay with that. I don't feel drowsy in the morning with them. I think tonight I'm due. I've had 2 bad nights in a row. My daughter and her baby just moved in. How's your bed? That can make a big difference. My wife and I can't agree on a bed and finally went the Sleep Number route. We both do better. I feel your pain. Mark

JB, try no caffiene after your first cup in the morning. I know it's hard, I like the stuff too, but caffiene that late in the day (even before 3pm) will still affect you that night. Everybody's different though. Also, KIZ suggested Melatonin. It's over the counter and I've heard it works well for some folks. Can you pinpoint what is waking you up? Thirsty? Drink more before you go to bed. A noise? Try sleeping with a fan on in your room. Dreams? No heavy meals or sugar before bed.

A good book will put me to sleep every time. :D

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the input, DR.

I am caffiene addicted. That's why the headache when I didn't get a "fix".

Did the Melatonin. Doc said stop it, because it was triggering sweats. Same with the niacin. . .I had dreams of being on fire (NOT fun). She wouldn't give me the Ambien. . .not addictive, but habit forming.

Sleep pretty soundly. Dreams before waking. Just wake too dang soon.

I will keep working on it. :)

Do a little bit of a physical workout before bed time and 2 shots of your favorite refreshment not coffee and youall wake up when nature calls

dolluper, I've always heard exercise before bed time is a bad thing. Gets your heart rate and adrenaline pumping, therefore making it MORE difficult to sleep. Best time to exercise is shortly after awakening. At least that's what I've always been told.

Best of luck JB. I'm sure it's very frustrating. Hey, less than 90 days to LOTW!

JB, Pray to the Lord to grant you some sound sleep. I beleive if you pray for 12 days straight then your prayer will be heard and i'm sure you will have a great night of sound sleep. It worked for me when my girl friend left me last November. You'll be surprised how god works. I'll say a prayer for you too Sir. God Bless

I’m not seeing your problem, JB. It’s not a big deal that you only require a few hrs sleep at a time, as long as your sleep habits are NOT artificially influenced by chemistry (drugs). Go with it! If you get up early, do whatever needs doing at that time. If you feel like a nap in the afternoon, take one (but only 45-mins max!), who cares!?! As long as you are healthy and functional, who’s to say you need specific hours of rest?

And fwiw, Stanford University has a well known ongoing medical study concerning sleep and abnormal sleep patterns, etc. Per them, if you awaken earlier than normal and have difficulties falling back to sleep, take a hot shower. Ironically, I was just reading about ancient Japanese bathing customs that go back several hundreds (thousands?) of years. Per the ancient Japanese, how to fall sleep: take a hot bath…

Thanks, 18R.

Forgot about the bath thing.

When I visited Yokohama in the 50s the bath was always the final ritual before bed.

Do you think a hot shower would do? I have one of those "garden" tubs that I never used for bathing (I have a garden in it. :) ). I would have to move a tree to take a bath.

Good luck JB. I hope you get some rest. I've never seen a garden tub used as a planter though :D :D I remember sleeping well after exercise, but she and I were a lot younger ;)

Re: Whine, whine. Snivel, snivel.

JB, your sleep patterns are almost like mine. I often get to sleep and wake up after 3-4 hours and my mind gets to going and I'm up for 2-3 hours, and then try to go back to sleep. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I never worry about it and do not want to take pills. I always remember what my doctor uncle told me: your body knows how much sleep you need and will let you get your rest. Taking pills to gain sleep is unnatural. Of course, all this is so as long you are reasonably healthy. Sometimes I get 7 hours. Biggest problem at my age is getting up to take a leak multiple times in the night. That's when the first awakening happens.

I also try to get 30 minutes of exercise in every day. I seem to sleep better when I can do that.

Nothing promotes sleep better than a clear concious. Nothing is more disruptive to that than the need to relieve onesself. :D
