You guy's can be as subtle as hand grenades; what's the point of hurling insults back and forth at each other? People are honestly giving their opinions here, and I don't understand the insults. When someone submits a question they want suggestions, not the venting of personal animus. I know that's what I was looking for. If you don't have something constructive to say, why not remain silent?

paying too much vs. paying too little

if you pay too much, all you are out is a few
bucks.

if you pay too little, you run the risk of losing
the entire investment.

I always opt for quality myself and am willing to
pay a little more for it. the lowest price is not
always the best investment IMO.

I agree with MY,

If you were looking to replace something like spark plugs or a distributor cap look for the deal. On the outdrive, make price secondary to your comfort with the seller. Is he accessable if it fails? Is there a specific person you can work with and hold accountable, warranty, and someone who will tell you exactly what he is putting into an outdrive.

I would need to be far more comfortable with who was selling something than the price of something in this category. Someone who is looking for your busness tommorrow will tell you everything you need to know today..

Good Luck

add to that, when you truly discover a piece of
eqpmt. on a boat doesn't work many miles from
shore and you have an un-forcasted storm on
yur rear...
Iboats is smart enuff to sell premium quality
(premium price) at a fair price IMO.
safe boating,
M.Y.

All this talk is starting to scare me. Thank God I stay within the rivers of the Chesapeake Bay. You always can see land not miles off shore like some posted. I can use any part I want. I have learned over the years that you do get what you pay for. If I use a cheep part even being a short distance from shore I still get nervous. For that matter after 30 years on the water I still get nervous every time I launch my 30 years old 19' boat with 330hp. I rebuilt the whole boat in the back yard so you always have something running through the back of your mind (what was that noise, did you here that squeak???). The few times I have broke something I could nurse the boat back to the ramp but when it comes to drives unless you have a marine pit crew with dive gear you are SOL. The last drive I bought was being sold from a local rebuilding shop. The original owner never came back for it. They sold it for the cost of the rebuild. They have been in business for years and are still there. Got to be doing something right. Just an idea.
