don't see why it wouldn't work for a small dinghy just to get to the shore from a larger boat.

Trent, my buddy lives on a private lake and it only allows electric motors. He had 2 transom mout minn kotas on it and they only lasted 6 months(the boat stays in the water on his dock). He purchased one of these and its lasted 2 years now with no problems.........

On lakes that forbid gasoline power I expect that they will sell a bunch of them.

I wonder how Warren's buddy got hold of one 2 years ago. . .??

Four group 31 batteries take up less space than 2 6 gallon tanks and weigh about as much as one large passenger.

That thing is worthless. A 74# thrust bow mount would be just as fast and a third of the price.

Not a chance in hell. On a lake that forbids gas, maybe, but I'd rather have a trolling motor. $1800 for a THREE HORSEPOWER? That's ridiculous. Especially when you consider the 500lbs of batteries you'd need to keep it going.

If you need one great. Be nice and quiet.
You do need to be able to charge the batteries in place without handling them.
Comparing one to a 3 hp gasoline engine is very difficult. The energy in those batteries is nothing compared to one gallon of gasoline.
That gallon will run the 3 hp all day, at about 9lb incl. the can.
Then you can start all over by pouring another tank into it and taking off; vs charging all night with a pretty good charger.
B&S is trying to present options.
I wait to see if they offer any repair options other than dealing with the normally surly engine repair shops that are dealers and "authorized repair" shops for their products; and only source for parts.
But that is another story, right?
