i have a jhonson 60 hp 1993 and i went to the dealer and got the thermostat and thermostat gasket, and changed them. i just cranked up the motor and let it idle during its warmup deal, didnt throttle it up any, and 3 minutes later the water is warm comming out of the tale tale, probly around 85-90 degrees! now i put my hand on the thermostat housing and it is HOT. like 2-2.5 seconds hot. before it starts to hurt. i put the new thermostat in exactly the way the old one came out, the old one had a ring around the part that seals. i suppose it was not closing all the way therefore making the motor run cool. all i can say is the idle and sound is alot smoother and has a better tone. how can i verify that the thermostat is working? the thermostat also had a yellow coating on the thermostat straight out of the wrapper. anyways i didnt attempt to clean it or anything, is that normal? im sure the heat cycling will bust it loose?
