Its a job, and someone has to do it. The people that we see aspire to the presidency are career politicians. The presidency is their career path. It has nothing to do with wanting to right a wrong, serve the people, whatever. The Bush family played the game, paid their dues, and were rewarded with their partys support, even to the point that some Repubs did not run against a Bush because it was their turn.

Consider Bill Clinton. He has never had a real job, always existed on the backs of tax payers. Until he term limited out of the White House, he never owned a home, always lived in public housing (the Governors Mansion, the White House, etc). Never had a real job, and now he is posturing to rule the world (in his mind), er, I mean head up the UN when Coffee Anon is out.

Its business, big business. In these modern times, no one severs in the Senate that is not a millionaire. A couple have gotten in that were just under that bar, but they we well into the millions when they left the Senate. A study of Senators investment portfolios showed excessive profiting that was well beyond the realm of typical investing. Every single Senator, no exception. The conclusion was that is only possible with insider trading knowledge, but it can never be proven because the Senators gave themselves a rule they do not need to disclose their investment portfolios for review except one or two times a year.
