I've got a few bones to pick with all the people who drive bass boats.
1) Why don't they ever slow down for other boater, and especially small vessals.

2) Here at my local boat launch there is a nice sand bar from the lazy b*stards who like to power their boat up on the trailer, instead of using the winch(That's what it's for!).

3) Why do they insist on fishing right in front of you, how rude can a person be!

As with anything this doesn't apply to all bass boat driver, just the majority of them. We have a saying around here, "Must be they stamp your drivers license with the word "A**hole" when you buy a bass boat."

Re: Why are anglers in Bass Boats so Inconsiderate of other boater?

Come on now, I'm a bassboat owner/driver!
1) I alway's slow down for smaller vessels and even go out of my way to stay a distance from them. Bigger boats can eat my wake
2) I too power up on my trailer instead of using the winch, and yes it's because I'm a lazy ba&*ard.(that's what the drive on bunks are for!!!) What most people don't do is wet the bunks so the boat glids up easy with little effort.
3) I never encroach on another's fishing hole. I usually apply the 50 yd rule unless they come up on me first.

The a-hole thing is good, I think I have to go get my liscense stamped! I know what your talking about. There are rude owner's out there, but I generally find them on any boat that is highly powered whether it be a PWC, cigar boat, or bass boat.

495v,
You know the people I'm talking about, the out-of-town tournament fisherman.

You know I didn't think of putting this in the Fishing catagory, I read something about driving up on a boat trailer and I was originally going to put just that issue, but decided to add a few more.

Oh, and Personal Water Craft, lets just say, I trust myself fishing, I don't think I'd trust myself Duck Hunting, because of the gun.

All I expect is that you treat other on the lake as you would want them to treat you. I have a 15ft. fiberglass fishing boat with 5.5hp Rudy and I'm still curtious enough to slow down for other boaters, yes, even bass boats if they're close enough.

Thanks for taking this light, I know there could really be an arguement here.

Schaffer, I do know the kind of people you are talking about, and as ebbtide said, there are alot of inconsiderate boater's. As far as the trailer thing goes, you must be seeing to many guy's that don't know what the hell their doing. Imagine the wear and tear their putting on their trailer if the have to use that much horsepower to get up. I drive on my trailer with little effort and don't even cause a wake, and then winch it about 6inches or so. I'd have to agree with you about the duck hunting thing. Oh well, I guess the world will alway's be full of a-holes.

If I even SEE a dozen boats in a day of fishing, that is a place I wont go back to. If I only get good fishing a dozen days of the year, it's worth it.

Good fishing requires solitude, and I prefer good fishing.

One out of ten boaters of any kind is without manners or courtesy. That is one too many. That doesn't include PWC drivers, then 9 out of 10 are without. . .etc.

Obviously this attitude limits me to only a few places, but I still enjoy my launch, fishing and load without raising my blood pressure.

In regards to powering up on the trailer, I'm sure they have no idea what they are doing. The last time I launched there I put out one of my lights, and my sister's father-in-law no longer launches there either because he also had a problem with taking out lights. Last time I was there, there was a 1ft. trench at the end of the concrete and a sand bar about 6-8ft. behind that.

I'm sure you know enough what kind of damage that can cause to the boat launch, let alone to your own personal boat and trailer. Thats why you don't do it the way these guys do. I've seen one bass boat go almost half throttle to get his boat on the trailer.

I do not understand why a bass boat has to go 80 mph. either. But, I'm certainly not going to begrudge anyone that wants to go that fast (safely) either.

How about this, have a bass tournament that has a twist in the rules: any boat caught exceeding 35 mph. is automatically disqualified! Not only would the contestants have to know where the fish are, they would have to know where the law isn't. :D

Being considerate out on the water is very important to me. I'm more considerate on the water than I am on the road; hey, you deal with an hour commute each way with some of these a-holes and try and keep your cool. As far as speed, I love it; as long as I feel safe and in control. Some day's weather permits and some it doesn't, but there's nothing like heading out to a fishing hole with another boat and getting an hour of fishing in before he even gets there. :D It's also great when your trying to outrun a storm.

A lot of bassrocket drivers are on a fantasy that they are in a tournament with Beeul Daynce. It makes them rude, competitive and mean. Tournament fishing in general makes many normally polite people into monsters.

But lack of courtesy is not, by any means, limited to some bassboat drivers. I see just as much from too-rich jerks in their 50' Hatteras or Egg Harbor, and a lot more from adolescent children on PWCs.

I don't think you can apply it to just bass boats. How bout the sail boater that knows he has the right of way while under sail(which is fine) but insists to cut right across the path your trolling. Or heads right through your fishing hole while you're there?
My big gripe is boaters who tie up the ramp instead of getting ready before backing down and vise versa

Do I sense a building of ROAD RAGE  or should we just call it AQUA RAGE  . The same inconsiderate jerk that cuts you off on a roadway is basically the same on the water. As we all know some of the blame is just pure ignorance.

I can not faithfully single out any class of watercraft user. I think the mishaps and evils are about even across the board.

Lead by example and try not to let the little things get to us. I'm with JB fishing and solitude is dam nice!

Bob

Knowing the competitive nature of the lot who seem to enjoy spectator sports and all the foolishness they reek of...exactly why I do not have any desire or intent to join a bass club. I go fishing to relax and enjoy my time on the water. I have no interest in going 60-80 mph on the water. Thess A**holes and the kidsters on PWC's are the reason I can not enjoy a cold beer while kicking back with a fishing pole in my hand. Maybe the law should be changed to allow a cooler full of beer if you do not exceed 35 mph.

You know what happens when an intake from a jet ski grabs a 2" bobber holding a 6" wild shiner. Laminated sushi.
Not that I would ever do such a thing.
:D

Okay, how about this, a Coast Guard Approved drivers license before any person(man or woman) can operate a vessal over, say 14ft.

I wouldn't mind the bother of taking a boating course if mandated.

2003 in oregon everyone operating a boat with any type of motor will be required to have ther boaters safety card.... That might help with some of the ding dongs.... but not much.

Re: Why are anglers in Bass Boats so Inconsiderate of other boater?

Yea, I'm an Oregonian too.
I still took the tests even though it wasn't required yet. My family will be taking it too.

I found most of the information helpful on the testing I took, however I have to complain about the PWC sections they had in it. They really put some emphasis on the topic, as well they should, but I think that should be a totally seperate testing from the regualr boating.

I think the required testing will open the eyes to new boaters, but in my opinion I think the real reason they are going to require testing is to get people to at least LOOK at the rules. It may weed out a few of the rotten apples, but not all.

I haven't seen too many A**holes on the water yet. But then again, I tend to stay away from large gatherings of humans anyways...!

I occasionally get a dirty look from a fisherman in a smaller vessel because I have a big 'ol V8 ski boat.. Of course I am considerate and keep the wake low. I'm a fisherman too.
I've seen some real 'would be-masters of the universe' fly right by the fishermen causing huge wakes in no wake zones etc...

Can't say I've ran into A**hole Bassers, but there's a first time for everything.

Now those PWC...There's another story...
( Yep, I gone and done it...Here comes the replies...) LOL

H.

My 21 footer had a dead ignition short on the Niagara River last August. The current was over 18-22 knots the wrong way.
New fuses were blown the second I turned the igniton on, so no starter either!

I have to say something the two American men in a Sea Doo jet boat who towed me and my family back to the ramp, GRATIS!!

"THANK YOU"

The only thing inconsiderate about someone in a baseboat, is they beat me to my fishing hole. The most inconsiderate people I run into on the water in my area, N. Indiana is the FIP's(f-----g Ill. People)on there toons or there rich kids on there pwc's that run inside the buoys showing there stuff when I'm sitting in my 14',1965 viking ,5 hp.Force ,with my grandson of 7 yrs. and he is trying to teach me how to bass fish and says (why do they do that Pa?)That is inconsideration if a 7 yr. old asks why they do that

MTH54-Pink at night sailors delight,Pink in the morning sailors take warning! ;)
