Sorry been out of it for a couple days. Had an unexpected trip to the ER after an injury at work.
I do appreciate everyones responses, it's quite interesting. Some of you which live on or near larger bodies of water are making me jealous!

Hope you have a speedy recovery from the mishap at work. I hate being injured at work, the last time was when I got rear-ended while stopped in a line of cars at road construction.

Oh yeah and I boat because I love everything about water and that's about the only way to enjoy it to it's fullest... being surrounded by water out in a boat is the best. The only way to bump it to the next level is to build or rebuild your own boat and to have a wife or partner who also loves water the same.

Oh boy CaveRun has the right idea too :heh:

...and everyone needs at least 2 boats just in case one breaks down or you have dual interests on the water like me, one boat is for cruising and the other for fishing.

Because I like it. I can't think of any other reason because the numbers on paper make no sense what so ever. I like being out there on the water with my wife and exploring different places.

To spend time with the family. The kids (13, 20, and 24) all still love it -- wake boarding, skiing, tubing, or just floating around secluded coves on Lake Mohave. Although the older kids are away at college, they do not miss any of the big trips. Nothing seems to bring them home as fast as a boating trip.

Boating quite simply releases any stress I might have. I'm not saying that trailering or launching is any sort of problem, but when the motor starts up and I'm leaving the launch area I feel a wave of euphoria come over me. Heck I feel so good that I rarely drink alcohol on board.

I like boating, but I dont like the bow rider that I have right now.
Bought it to intro the Grandkids to water sports, come to find out ,they dont like to tube or water ski. The 7 year old just complains he wants to go home.
The wife is scared to death out there and just spends all her time yelling at the kids.
The 6 year old boy just wants to jump off the boat and paddle around in his life jacket, he is my only bright spot of the day.He hates it when faster boats pass us and yells at me to go faster.
The 11 year old girl I was planning on grooming to be the next black water ski champion thinks lake water is icky.
Think Im going to sell this bowrider and buyanother bass boat like I used to have years ago. Just bring the 6 year old with me. We can then get some speed up, I throw him into the water and then I can have some fun fishing again.
LOL. have to add this, stop boat first, then toss kid into the water, then fish.

Lager sounds like you've found a plan! Good luck. Maybe you could teach that 6 year old to be the next B.A.S.S. Masters champ! Then he'll need one of those really BIG Bass boats.

I had a 5.7 Liter Baja in pristine condition, tubes, skis, ropes, you name it, I had it. NO ONE (my two 14 year old daughters, 12 year old son) wanted to do water sports or fish.

I sell the Baja and get what I want. A total utilitarian work boat. Guess who wants to go tubing and fishing now? EVERY ONE. I swear we're the only Pilot house boat pulling 3 teens on the Ohio River. No worries Lager, you'll have every neighborhood kid wanting to tube off of your new bass boat, lol.

No Title

This is why.... Note the crowds and rough water. Scenery is OK too.

I have boated in numerous rivers, small lakes, large ponds, large lakes, the great lakes, Gulf of Mexico, ICW, and the Atlantic Ocean.
I have been the first boat in the water for the season as well as the last boat off the water.
My boats instinctively know their way in the dark, fog or sunlight to places like Waverly Beach on the North Shores of Lake Winnebago, JJ's La Puerta in Sister Bay, Stone Harbor in Sturgeon Bay, Gaters in John's Pass, Cortez Kitchen in Cortez, Mar Vista on Longboat key and dozens of other stops along the way.

I boat because therapy is expensive, watching the sun rise or set on the water is amazing.
I boat because the wife likes to go for a slow cruise while spending time with her friends
I boat because the kids like to go swimming in Long Boat Pass or a few of the other places we drop anchor
I boat because the dogs like to bark at dolphins as well as other dogs
I boat because sometimes I fish (and sometimes I catch)
I boat because I like working on boats
I boat because as hobbies go, its not as expensive as racing
I boat because its in my blood

I love to be on the water. The Admiral loves to be on the water. Doesn't matter if we're fishing, cruising, or just anchored off in a cove, we just love to be at the lake. We are fortunate in that we can trailer our boat to three lakes in less than 30 minutes, and can reach about 5 more within about an hour and a half. When we retire I think we may try to get a house on the lake. Boating has been a part of our lives for several years, even though we've only been together for about 7. I'm a lucky guy in that our interests match up really well. Especially the boating and outdoor side. Why do we boat? Because we're together and we love it!

kinda creepy you can change the 30 minutes to 45 for us and that is my exact response including the 7 years together. Only thing I could add is she tells me when we're pulling away from the ramp headed out that she can literally see stress leave me.

Why do I boat?

for all of the above quoted reasons, need I say more.

Scott, it runs a close second to racing as far as expence goes, but I bet you never caught a halibut on an oval track so that's one more reason to go boating.

No, I havent. And I havent grenaded the boat motor crossing the 60' mark or turned my boat over on its side sliding it around an autocross course either
