Why don't job ads post the salary?

It seems like no one wants to even give you a ball park figure as to what the salary will be. What is the deal with that? That's how you know if the job is in your league or not.
I tried to search for jobs making under 40,000, and it just gave me every job on the site, since no jobs have a salary posted. That just makes you have to manually search thru 3,000 jobs, instead of being able to narrow it down.

It's so frustrating, makes me wanna just say F it, and start my own business. But that's easier said than done.

Companies know who the best candidate is and one who will fit the bill, this difference could be 25%-50% in salary.
I think it all comes down to expereince, training and cross training and does your attitude fit in.

That's because the salary depends on a lot of factors including experience and level of education. 2 people applying for a job might get offered two completely different salaries.

Also depends on what types of jobs you are looking for. If you know what type of job you are looking for, I sure hope you would already know what the salary ranges are.

but how do you know salary ranges, if they never tell anyone what the salaries are?
The federal Govt has a good system.
Every job has a salary range.
Even if the range is $30,000 - $80,000, at least it lets me know what ball park i'm in.
I would like to know if were talking $8 / hr, or $20 / hr.

Most companies know what the going rates are, and so can you.
Go through the want adds across the country and you will see a cross section of supply and demand for someone with your talents (most should give an indication of the pay spread).
Manegment is one thing, union positions another, private can be broken down into two areas, were they really need people for example in a boom area (Gas /Oil, mining) or were the economy is holding or stagnating.

I know what you mean . . . that is why I put in "$100,000+" and did a search that way . . . the list was much shorter :D

Most state employment offices have a full list of "averagae" salaries / wages you can use to compare against.

That's presuming it's a recognized job title. I'm in a high tech field and won't find my description on any employment sites. Secondly, the economy has hammered salaries. In my field salaries are 60% of what they were even 5 years ago.

I'm not sure. I am setteling for a driving job for now. Because getting a real job just seems out of the question now. Like I'm not gonna be able to get an office job with my resume, not after being a truck driver for the past year.

I have an interivew tomorrow to drive a box truck, home daily. I just want to go home at the end of the day, not sleep in a truck.
