All the fields that were flooded in Iowa have lost the crops. That will also raise food prices.

After hearing lots of news from our health care providers about the increasing weight of the population. Sounds like supply and demand causing the price to rise............supply and demand seems like all the answers to our vast problems lately,,,,,,,,joking of course

I went out into the yard today and it sounded like the A/C unit had a seized relay. Turned out it was the "cat mint" in my wife's flower garden. Must have been around fifty bees in there--honey, bumble, and mason. Too late to pollinate the fruit trees, but they're out in force for the zucchini.

Do leaf-cutters pollinate? I hope not. The little suckers take all the leaves off of my strawberries and stuff them into the drain holes in my windows, resulting in black stripes down the siding and sometimes even water intrusion.

Interesting stuff. I suppose that "back in the day" we didn't need to produce as much as we do now either, so the required level of pollination was much less.

Really, when it comes to most of our environmental problems, our exploding population plays a very key role.

VERY true!

Sometimes I wonder if we shouldn't institute some kind of "one child" law, similar to what China has... at least for a while.

In the land of the free,the only way to have any chance of success in that sort of population control is to replace certain religions with a new sort of religion with its own new environmental god and message.In short ,unless people believe in the environmental message,nothing will get done.
But then again nature has rather extreme and cruel ways to repair itself.

If anybody saw CBS "Sunday Morning" today, they had a full segment on the bee problem. To say the bee problem is "complex" is an understatment and has scientist's attention world-wide.

To help out we are now importing lots of bees from Austrialia. Hopefully that will help and not create yet another set of problems (nothing agianst the Aussie bees ).

Maybe someday we will all maintain our own bees same as we do with gardens.

Lester,I am not condemning any current religions.
On the other hand your reaction just proved my point.
The real power to move people to make changes is by promoting what they believe in.Therefore,if enough people have a faith that promotes,say celibacy as was promoted by the Shakers of last century,the over population problem would start solving itself.
But..,with such a religion,I would be a heretic..
