It takes too long. I have dial up and the only option for me is sat. right now. If the site was more freindly to dial up I would be here more often. I used to really enjoy iboats but the wait doesn't seem worth it much anymore. Today was the first time in almost a month since I have been here.

we are doing all we can to get the best service we can. some people have not speed problems, other have a hard time. i use comcast cable, and mozilla foxfire, and rarely have any problems.

you might try clearing your cookies, defragmentating your computer, and using your clean up disc. this usually speed up most computers.

Ken I feel your pain. I was on dial up for many years (and so was JB too in the beginning) until dsl became available. ANY post with a picture would kill me.

The only other suggestion which is a PITA is to shut off ANYTHING that is running in the background taking up any of the computer resouces..... Make sure that MS programs are off and just strip yourself to an anti-virus and the explorer....... increase your ram (it has come way down in price) and maybe a faster graphics card too. Those steps will not give you much....but they will give you something.

You could try FireFox. Then go to Tools -> Options -> Uncheck Load images automatically. Should you want to see an image you can right-click it and choose show image. It's not the optimal way to view the site, but should make it load quicker over dialup.

Ken, a lot of it is all the banners and ads that iboats is dumping on you. Go to nascar.com or cnn.com (and many others) and you'll probably experience the same thing.

Jeez, you have enough stuff where it should work decent,

I work with a simple laptop and have no problem with speed at all. That's not to be insensitive, but just to give you an example of what else is out here and works, short of what I'm reading....I always thought the site was better than most because it always did run nice.

The only problem I have is if I leave to go downstairs for 10 to 15 minutes I get logged out, I cannot figure out why?

Try installing firefox and installing the 'web developer' toolbar (a firefox addon). That toolbar is obviously meant for web developers, but contains a useful option which lets you disable image on a site. It won't look as pretty, but vbulletin (the forum used here) should display okay, even with the pretty bits disabled.

Sadly, most of the inet ignores the dialup base. I know most sites I manage are unbrowsable with dialup. The inet is just too darn pretty to support dialup, sad to say.

Hey Ken check out Verizon wireless, if you can get a cell phone signal you should get high speed?well at least something better than dialup.

8 years ago I was thinking ISDN. But $120 a month was not in the budget.

At the very least, click the "text only" in your browser.

Funny you say that Ken I have high speed and when I come here I get the reminder of dial-up ...10 minutes to load your post....lightening fast every where but iboats very very strange on a real clean system ....so bad I never ever log out anymore

Ken I found the problem it was AVG 8 that slowed it to a crawl ...if you have AVG 8 dump it and get AVAST for free also....works better updates auto and doesn't slow down iboats....hummm

Ken, if you have cell phone coverage, you might be able to use mobile broadband. I use Sprint mobile broad band at my home because there is no cable or DSL, and I need to use VPN for work and that won't work well over satilite. MBB works great!!! I have a Linksys wireless router that takes a MBB card. The card's external antenna port is connected to an amplifier that is connected to a panel antenna inside my attic. It boosts and directs the signal in a very narrow beam to a cell tower 7 miles away. I get 1.1-1.4 meg connection and rain or snow doesn't bother it. The amp is a Cyphre CA819 and it is on 24/7. It made a world of difference in speed tests, and it cooks a turkey in under 2 hours. :D

I see that Freestone TX is just 2 miles away from a Sprint mobile coverage area. You might want to look into it.
