Re: Why I don't post much here...

we are doing all we can to get the best service we can. some people have not speed problems, other have a hard time. i use comcast cable, and mozilla foxfire, and rarely have any problems.

you might try clearing your cookies, defragmentating your computer, and using your clean up disc. this usually speed up most computers.

Its not the "user's" connection, Its the latency of the iboats server that is the problem. I have comcast business class at home. I get 20MBPS down at the peak time and 5 M up. Iboats is a FREE service. It is great in my opinion. I just think that cleaning cookies is not the problem. The data rate to the IP of iboats servers is a constant thing. If i had dsl with a slower connection, I would not see a difference. If for some reason i need to download a file that is 500MB form somewhere, I can get it in about 45 seconds. My HDD is slower than my internet connection. Bottom line is that its a free service and if you need more preformance from it then go to options and edit how manny posts per page you get. I had my settings set to something where oops's post, normal setting i should have been on page 15, well i set it so that i had more posts per page so people were saying go to page 5 and it was my page 2. That slows down the page loading when you bring up the page. Especially if there is thumbs.

I have cable internet and have to agree, this site is one of the slowest I visit. I don't know if it is the ads or what but I do know that I can open another tab an surf a second site while waiting for this one to load.

if so how is it the some of us have absolutely no problems, until we get about 300 people log in on the forum. then you can expect the system to slow. do to load. i am not saying it is your personal connection, but the service you are using, and how they route stuff.

It's not just my provider. Its slow at work, at my sisters house (cable), at by brothers house (different cable), at my parents house (DSL), at my friends house (another different cable), public library in NY(T1?). I've never been anywhere and connected to iboats and had a "fast" response. Some of those pc are macs, some windows. It doesn't seem to matter.

Ayuh,...

I'm on Cable, running XP-pro, with a mountain of ram, Clean, Defraged,+ it's Still Slower than Death...

Well then your cable sucks because I'm running Cox cable with the same system you have and Iboats is blisteringly fast for me.

I don't recall ever having problems with iBoats being slow.

It's fast at home: AT&T DSL
It's fast at work: ITC Deltacom T1
It's fast at my Mother's house: Charter Cable
And it's been fast every time I've used it out of town.

I would be interested to see some pings and traceroutes from those having problems. I bet it's a routing or packet loss problem.

To run those go to Start>run and type cmd and click ok. On the screen that comes up (dos) type tracert iboats.com. After it is done running right click the dos (black) screen and choose Mark. Highlite the information and hit the enter key, that will copy the highlited area. Then just paste that into your reply.

For ping, in that same dos window, type ping iboats.com and repeat the procedure for copying and pasting.
