Ok so I just got it out of the shop for a diagnosis. I couldn't figure out why it had an erratic idle coughing spitting and stalling at lowspeeds but performed great on highspeed.

Diagnosis: flywheel center magnet moved. Bad gas.

They said put a flywheel on there drain the tank and you'll be good.

So I went down to the salvage. Found an identical motor. Pulled the flywheel off. Identified that it had matching numbers and installed.

Motor ran great for about 3 mins. I was like awesome it's fixed! until It stalled out and wouldnt start again. Got gas. But no spark on any cylinders. I don't know what happened. Or where to start???

My immediate thought was that something may be contacting the magnet and moving it...check the magnet position on the new flywheel.

Pull the flywheel off again and check to make sure you did not break the key. If the key is broken the flywheel may have slipped enough on the shaft to throw everything out of time. Flywheel should be torqued to around 100-110 ft. lbs. or it will shear the key!

Except it is not just off-timing, there is NO spark at all.

Which also blows my response out of the water because presumably if the magnets just shifted, then there should still be spark....just off-timing as well.
Magnet right off?

Agreed Tim!
maybe a stator failure or power pack failure? Check the CDI website for the information on how to diagnose these parts, or the factory service manual.
Unless it's something simple like a pulled electrical plug or fitting?

Well the magnet ring sprung loose and was spinning freely. Thus, no spark. Thanks guys!
