Then there are those of us that moved even further North. :) I love the lakes, especially when we can run the dirt bikes and four wheelers on them. I have started liking the salt water more than fresh water boating though. Days when you can get out on the big pond and it is like glass are few and far between, but I have pictures of that. Pulling up a huge halibut, or a 55 inch Ling Cod is so different than pulling in a 5 lb Bass. The salmon fight so much more in the salt than they do in fresh water, all I can say is Summer is coming. We have had a very cold, brutal, low snow winter so far. I am looking forward to a warmup, you know anything above 0 would be nice. At least the winds have stopped, we had 40 mph steady with 80 mph gusts for two weeks straight.

And we've had a relatively warm winter, so far. When you guys are cold, we're warm and vice versa. I notice it too that fish in general fight harder in saltwater than freshwater. I would have thought the opposite........

That said...having traveled much farther south than Florida over the years, I can say life is really tough for some of those people that many of us can never understand. I've had many a northener come down here in the summer to go offshore fishing. Most spend their time inside in the A/C due to heat exhaustion and seasickness. I don't consider them wimps, just not used to weather.

Have a good day and enjoy wherever you are at.

It just all depends on what you're acclimated to. For instance:

The wife and I flew up to Cold Lake Alberta to visit her brother one year in July. We went fishing on Cold Lake, it was chilly for me that morning but turned into a beautiful day. As the temperature rose to near 80*F The Cold lake residents were starting to sweat a lot and talking about having a heat stroke, and I'm like "Dammit man, this is like air conditioning compared to 'Bama right now".

Went back to Cold Lake a couple years later to visit during the Christmas holidays. We went out ice fishing, drilled through 18" of ice on Dec. 26. The temp was 17*F, I was dressed in a Cabelas Trans Alaska snow suit and some heavy boots rated for -65*F. I was starting to think and feel frostbite and the brother in law was walking around on the ice in a jersey jogging suit and tennis shoes telling me what a beautiful day it was and how it was such mild weather for that time of year... I guess I was lucky they weren't having a cold spell while I was there.

It just depends on what you're used to.

I live for winter. I only own a boat to pass the time til I can ride my snowmobile! I like all seasons. To me, Christmas needs snow. I just don't think I could enjoy the holiday without it!

I used to love winter....then I realized after I moved to Florida the first time, I can visit snow.

eventually we will be snow-birds, however for now, I'm just a cheesehead in paradise

Well thanks for that refresher.

It is suprisingly nice still here in Indiana, normally right after thaknsgiving it goes to crap but it has been in the 40 with a few days in the upper 50s even but I know it is coming.

I only hope it holds out for another week or 2 so I can get in my long awaited last fishing trip, hit a deer on my motorcycle the week before Thanksgiving so I have been spectating since then with a broken arm but it is pinned and plated now and I should be cleared this week.

Yep, I grew up in Michigan (21 years), I spent three years in Alaska, three years in Korea, and a tour in Bosnia. This kid is done with the whole cold experience.

Here in Missouri it is going to be in the teens tonight. This kid is packing the truck and heading back to the Texas house.

God Bless Texas!

I really like Texas, and its relatively warm Winters. I feel for the state having so many droughts in the past 10 years, and it being so danged hot in Summer.

Tex-Mex food and chicken fried steak are also great things.

And if you can find a native Texan, like Laura Bush, they speak with a perfect Middle Tennessee accent. That's where their ancestors originated in the early 1800's.

Southern Alberta Nov 1980 something or another.

Winter EX, -45 c winds gusting to 90 KMH (steady at 60 KMH ) someone said it was -105 C with the windchill!!!!!! BRRRRR

Try northern Alberta. We get that kind of weather all the time. Spent 15yrs in Ft. McMurray. Had to fix a crane once on piece of mining equipment. Temp. was -52C plus the wind. At that temp it feels like you're skin is being cut by a razor after just a few seconds. Now since I moved I avoid that temp as much as possible.

Why I hate winter:

1. The water is too hard to boat
2. The days are too short
3. The fish migrate south
4. A/C is cheaper than heat
5. I like ice in my drink, not my mustache
6. It's too cold to wear shorts and a t-shirt
7. My flip flops skid on the ice
8. The umbrella freezes in my drink
9. I prefer sunburn over windburn
10. Women look better in a bikini than a snow suit

+1 - concise and to the point, especially #10!

Was born in NY, lived in Chicago as young kid, family moved to Malibu, Ca in 1963 (I was 10). For a long while, I missed the winter "season" and the winter sports but the older I have gotten, the less I miss the really cold temps. And, IF i want snow and cold temps, all I have to is drive a couple hours. And now that we are so into boating - all year round - I could not see putting the boat to sleep for a few months each year. Heck, I can hardly take it when we get rained out and I miss just one weekend.

Re: Why Wimps go South........

Around here, people take off for LA for the weekend.

The LA they're talking about is "Lower Alabama", The Redneck Riviera, or commonly known as Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama.

When you're really from Los Angeles, taking off for LA means you're running over to Texas. You know, East LA. That's where everyone seems to be moving for the low cost of living, no state income tax and a dynamic job market. And, it's still part of the South. Texans drink tall neck beers, eat chicken fried steak and Tex Mex food has been a great addition to the U.S. diet.

I was up in CT this november. They got 5 inches of snow up there from a noreaster on like nov 4th.
That's crazy early for snow, even in new england.
I took this pic the next day, It was a really nice view. You kinda felt like you were in the wide open rocky mountains, not jam packed CT.

oh, And the only LA I wanna live in is Louisiana. I love the cajun accent.
