I have a 1984 merc 115 6 cyl.

While rebuilding my fuel pump a cple weeks ago i notced in my manual doesnt show a spring and a retainer that the online parts diagram does..

Diagram

It's part number 22 and 23..

Did they leave that spring and retainer out of the image on the manual intentionally?

Is it needed?
Unsure as to what to make of it..

I do not know the answer, however, there is a varient of that fuel pump that uses two pulse hoses to connect to the crankcase. I had this one on my '77 IL6. It did not have the spring and plastic cup, but looks like it shared most every other part. The fuel pump in the diaghram looks to mount on one of the transfer covers? Where does your mount?

Then I would think you should use the spring and cap. Maybe your manual is showing the other model that doesn't use them? That fuel pump mounts on the top of the lower cowling, near the starter solenoid.
