I recently acquired a Pulan chainsaw, it's an automatic oiler,it never seems to stop dripping oil,it is the second one like this, i took the first one back to the shop where i got it from and got this one, and would you know it drip..drip..drip. Is this normal on this brand? or is there some way to ajust the oil flow?

Mine does it, but I just drain the oil after use. Easier than messin with taking it bak or trying to fix, I only use it about once or twice a year. They are just cheap saws.

Mine dips also so I store it with a pan underneath to keep it contained ,doesn't leak very much though, if you clean it probably won't leak much either sawdust holds the oil gravty pulls it down

I have a Craftsman and it drips. Went by the shop, described the symptoms. Repairman immediately said "It's a Poulan, isn't it". I said no that it was a Craftsman. He said same difference. Poulan makes them. Advised to lay it on the side with chainbar up. Been doing that and no more leaks. He said there's a kit to fix it, but it doesn't work very well.

mine does not drip -deere neither did my old mcullough

I would lay it on its side - draining the oil would probably get to be a hassle after a while

Re: Wild Thing keeps on dripping

Vlad.......I also have a cheap Poulan that I use a few times during the camping season. It too( brand new ) started to leak and I took it to a repair shop for warrenty work to get it fixed. The repair tech asked what kind of oil I was using in it and when he looked at it it was the thin runny oil that was in it. He changed it to the thicker oil and low and behold, no more leaks. What he said is that they are massed produced(like everything else) and they put the thin oil in it cause they could be sold to sub zero temps or really hot climates so they use the thin oil which will work anywhere. In the summer time, for example, you need the thicker oil in it and as the temperatures gets colder(like winter) you need the thinner oil in it. I do this now and have not had leaking with my cheap Poulan and have told a couple of others that I have met camping and it did the trick for them as well. Just thought I woukd put in my"two cents" worth. Good Luck with it!!!!!!!

Hi malibu4u, what is the thicker oil that you're refering to?

Vlad.....I am not sure what the oil is called for the automatic oiler but any repair shop that fixes the saws would have it. I will try this afternoon to go out and see what the oil is called. It's put away in our Motor Home so I will did it out. When you are refering to the saw leaking, do you mean the oil for the chain(blade) is leaking when it is not in use? If so, we are on track but if you are talking the oil for the engine, then that's different. Let me know, okay?

yeah, we are on the right track, it's the chain oil that drips when not in use.

Re: Wild Thing keeps on dripping

Vlad.....Went out and checked the oil but it was just in a normal pint container that the repair shop filled up from his stock. You will know you have the right one cause it almost feels stickey like you have glue or something in it(there isn't but it still feels like it does). I will go to the shop on Monday and see if I can come up with a name for you but if we have it up North, you will have it as in all likelyhood it comes from the USofA. Will let you know if I find out anything. Have a good weekend.

V...When all else fails, google your questions and usually the answear comes up. Anyway, I did and here is the site.
www.poulan.com/faq_chainsaws.asp#q177
It should bring you to the bar and chain and the oil you need is like what I said. It is stickey and it's formulated to stick to the bar and chain when using. Good luck!!!!!!

:D @ neumanns,ya should'nt be talking 'bout another feller's water prop should ya? :D

Laying the chainsaw on it's side as tomatolord suggested does the trick, no drips when in it is in that position, saves me draining it every time after i use it.
Thanks guys, just goes to show eh! we live and learn, some of us anyways :)
