Ayuh,..... You'll also have to use the old MC-1 input drive shaft, which is 'bout an inch shorter than the Alpha shaft,.....

What pitch prop were ya runnin' on the MC-1,..??

The seller says the gearing is 1:84 and was made for a v6 but he was using it on his 4 cylinder still a ways off from 1:65. I'm assuming I would still have to swap the shaft but the gearing is closer to what a 6 inline would have.

After reading a bit more. I might just wait to buy a whole new se106 drive. I have read a few posts that mentioned when your upper craps out the debris makes it into the lower so the lower would soon crap out also. Was going to hedge my bets and clean the lower with deisal fuel but I'm tired of chasing problems. 1500$ and I'll be good for a 3 year warranty.

Now there's an entire alpha 1 gen 1 198 drive for sale locally. I believe that it's from a v8. When I look at the gear ratio online it says it's the same gear ratio as the 6 inline. I looked at this site https://www.sterndrivereplacement.c.../alpha-one-gen-1/complete-sei-106/gear-chart/

Can I use this drive?

Will this need the input drive shaft to be swapped if I can use it?

Sorry wasn't expecting this deal to pop up.

Thanks in advance.

Now I'm confused much more. I found the receipt for the upper in the prior owners paperwork and it is for 1.81 gears. If I ran fine with 1.81 would a gear ratio in the 1.9 area be that much different?

Ayuh,..... Do the math,..... it depends on the gear ratio, 'n prop pitch,......

if yer runnin' a 21" or 23" pitch prop, with the right ratio, 'n ya drop to the 2:1, ya need a prop that the pitch is in the high 20s, to low 30s inches of pitch,......
Normal props for our drives usually run from 15" to 23",..... used to see 25s, but not so much anymore,.....

'n even then, the hull won't "Behave" properly,....
