Will an inline lower unit interchange with a V-6 LU?

I was wondering if the LU from my '77 1500 would fit on an early'80s Merc Black Max 150. I know that the prop shafts are the same, and that the gearcase is 1/4" larger on the V-6, but will the inline LU bolt up onto the V-6? I can always run the inline prop of the correct pitch.

Hard to say for sure as I don't know, but...well, hell I DON"T know! Think the inlines and V's are different beast though...someone will come along here and know more..

SCAATY, Thanks for the input. Anyone know for sure? I know that some OMC V-4 and V-6 motors have LUs that will swap. These LUs are not the same, but they will bolt up. Did Merc do the same thing?

John, From that link you provided, it sounds like it will not work.

I wasn't looking for a weaker LU, just looking to see if my good inline LU would work on a V-6 that I am considering purchasing.

Thanks for the input

Long story short, it can be done, but probably isn't worth the trouble and expense.
