Re: Will it land?

I know this has been beat to death...and some very interesting thoughts...:D
The 150 stalls around 40-42 flaps down....cruise we file for 105mph...naturally we don't want flaps at 100...infact max flap extention speed is around 85mph for the first 10 degs, if I 'member right...
No flap landing...no biggy, problem is...a 100mph head wind even with brakes set and yoke full fwd, it's going by-by....so,....land?...yes, stay-put.....No...:D

Re: Will it land?

There are two ways this could be done. One would be to enter the 100 mph headwind at 105 mph, fly to a desired touchdown spot at a ground speed of 5mph, and then force the airplane onto the ground with pitch changes. The other way would be to enter the 100 mph headwind at a point far ahead of the touchdown point, at about 55 mph. You would then be "flying" backwards at 45 mph so you would have to retard the throttle quickly in order to stall the airplane and touchdown backwards at about 55 mph.

In either case, the airplane would end up in some sort of a crash rather quickly, so having a tight seatbelt and a helmet would be adviseable.
