Re: Will my controls work on newer engine?

The three wires that control the trim and tilt are the red/white, blue/white and green/white on either system and they are the only required ones, whether you have a control mounted, dash mounted or auxiliary switch.

If you follow the three leads from the control to the relay box, it's hard to foul it up.

The other two wires are for the trim gauge and run to the variable resistor mounted on the inside of the port transom bracket.

Thanks, just don't want to mess it up. What I'm saying is even the variable resistor wires go into the control box in the engine compartment. There is that loose 5pin connector in the engine compartment, is that where I'm making my connections to from the control box/tilt switch?

Also why does the wires right now go from the trim/tilt switch to the trim gauge first??? then to the control box? I guess that's how it was wired from the old motor? So I should take it right from the control switch to the engine.

Correct, but the variable resistor is already wired to the bottom left two screws; all you need to do is connect your two gauge wires to the same two screws. Those wires have no function relative to the operation of the tilt motor.

The three wire system did not have the control box mounted on the engine. It had only one solenoid for raising the motor, none for lowering, so the wiring needed to be as short and direct as possible.

Ok, thanks, I think I'm good to go now. I've connected the blue, red, green, wires from the control tilt button to the blue, red, green in the engine compartment on the 5 pin connector. I think that's all I got to do for now, so it works, I don't have the other end of that 5 pin connector, so I've just bared the wires soldered the ends and plugged them directly into the connector in the engine compartment, I'll try go source that connector somewhere. I'm going out to test it now.

Thanks for the help
