How do I change Local Area Connection Status window to display Bytes sent and received instead of Packets sent and received?

It used to display Bytes, but for some reason lately it displays Packets, which to me is a much less usefull piece of information.

Thanks,

Mark.

Interesting that you noticed that. I never did befor. What I did see is that my dialup connection measure traffic using bytes and my WiFi connection I use for printing uses packets. Couldn't say off hand as to why but will look into it. What types of connections are you using?

I have a hard wired router running at 100mbps and a 56k dialup modem connected to the router.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the display changed from bytes to packets when Cisco VPN software was installed.

I like the bytes count, it makes it easy to determine if you have any tracking/monitor type adware bugs on the system by just a glance when you change websites.

Mark, this doesn't answer your question but maybe you'll find it helpful...

That stuff is called spyware. What I do is have PC-cillan setup to do frequent spyware scans. Then I click on the PC-cillian ‘more info’ button, that tells me what company the spyware belongs to. I look up that company’s ip address range and create a ‘rule’ for my router to block all outgoing packets going to that range of ip addresses. They can collect as much data as they want on my computer, they just can’t have it.
:)

On the side, what I learned from doing this is that an un-moderated forum may be hosted by a spyware company. I used to access the woodworking forum on diy-banter.com this way, but not any more.
