I really should know this, and feel dumb for even asking, but......

I am looking to replace the winch strap on my winch. It is currently a nylon rope, and I think I am fortunate that it hasn't failed my first few times out. I assume the previous owner powerloaded all the way to the winch, which I have done a couple of times....but usually find myself winching the last foot or so.

I prefer not to use cable as in my experience it has too much "memory" and stays coiled up as you pull it off.

I measured the width of the winch where the strap would go, and it is exactly 2.5" wide. I see that iboats has only 2" straps, but have seen some 2.5" straps elsewhere.

I assume the 2" strap would be ok, and think the 2.5" strap might be too tight of a fit on the spool. Do I just get the 2" strap, or is there a 2.25" strap out there that I haven't found?

mine is regular seat belt strap - when I replaced it last year I bought a length from the surplus junk store down the street. I wanna say it was like four dollars for 20 feet

Just grab one at Wally World. 2", about 12 bucks and no finger sticks from broken metal strands.

Just grab the 2" strap. Check the weight capacity on it though, and try to find one equal to or greater than 50% of the boat weight if possible.
