Sorry, don't have a digital camera. I thank you for your help but I believe I'm at the end of what I can do. I don't see the options jumper box.<br /><br />I do want to thank you for your effort.

Saw the web site but I still can't locate the master/slave settings on the new PC. I guess I'm one of those dumb people you see everywhere

Whatever!!!!<br /><br />Is there one that says CS or cable select? What brand of drive is it. I will look it up.

Vipzach I cant speak for your experiance but I've had all kinds of problems using the cable select setting.. much easier to designate master and slave to guarrantee it will work properly. <br /><br />That being said, i've done this stuff for years and I never knew the red strip goes closest to the power connection.. I always looked at the notches... See you can always learn something new. Thanks

wimperdink, you are right, cable select doesn't always work. It is better to designate master and slave. Alot of branded pc's will come with the jumper on cable select though, like most dells. <br />The red stripe goes towards power though, that is pin 1 in the cable and pin 1 is closests to power. Usually they are keyed and you don't have to worry about it though. I told him about it, just in case it wasn't keyed.<br /><br />I learn something everyday in this business!

OK. I've found the jumpers on the old drive. Old drive is MAXTOR Model 92041U4<br /><br />JUMPER MASTER/SINGLE SLAVE<br />jo50 on off<br /><br />Does this help.<br /><br />Pins look like this<br /><br />... .<br />.....<br /><br />Jumpers are on the first two on the left column joined and the 2nd and 3rd points on the top line

(Slave)<br />No jumper is required to configure the drive as a Slave.<br />The jumper over the J44 and J42 positions is in the jumper storage position.<br /><br />Does this mean to remove the two jumpers on the drive?

I'm almost there. Just need to know where to put the jumpers (or remove jumpers) to configure as slave. The web sites helped a huge amount. My old disk does not have any lables as to master/slave, etc

I tried to answer you yesterday but I-boats was not loading for me. Yes, I can access all my files, at least they are on the slave driver disc.Some files I'm having trouble opening as they are looking in Windows XP to open I guess.<br /><br />I'll figure it all out later. I "snapped" off a metal cover so I could actually "house" the old disc safely.<br /><br />Again, thanks for helping an old f a r t that doesn't know much about computers. You taught me a lot.
