I switched the email over to Outlook, instead of the MS Mail client. Seems to be working

I spoke too soon . . . Outlook & AOL keep chucking an IMAP error message . . . gonna re-try MS Mail.

Thinking back to my original point . . . with MicroSoft, some things never change.

I just dove into the AppleTV and iPad worlds this year too. I bought G4 iPad to try out as a digital sketchbook. Like you, it's turned into my library too … but I'm trying to be as paperless as possible at the office (personal experiment). I've found all sorts of obscure advantages to the AppleTV (I'm sure the Roku could do the same), but we do all our TV watching over streaming content anyway so it really works for us.

I run into the same type of thing with Windows. What's terrible for me is that I'll be chugging away in CAD working on a model, and all of a sudden everything goes into slow motion. Look down in the system tray, and the blasted OS started downloading an update. Fight my way through the slowdown, and then the OS hijacks the work space and demands that I restart to finish installing … growl.

Do they have Thunderbird for Windows? That's been a pretty good mail client.

Thunderbird is one of the best mail clients out there and it is free, with a whole community of people to help you when you need it.

As far as the updates interrupting my work, I always make sure the first thing I do when I get a new windows computer is turn off automatic updates!, let me repeat that TURN OFF AUTO UPDATES!

I set it up to notify me when updates are available, then I can choose when to update, I also investigate the update before I install it, just in case there have been problems that come up because of the update.

If I choose to do the updates, I start them when I go to bed and then they are done when I get up in the morning, some think the OS is hijacking, but you have control over when it hijacks, so just set a few things up correctly and you can get along with windows just fine.

+1 windows tried to autoload load VS 8.1, and I didn't ask for it.

Auto updates are now off!

That is great, I would update my internet connection in a heartbeat, if I could! You have to remember there are still a lot of us that don't have that option.

No need to harp on the "2 Days" that the MS Surface says as the download time . . . at least for me. It downloaded 2.1 GB in about 30 minutes or so . . . just seems like a very funny display message.

Anyway, as mentioned, I scrapped the Outlook client and returned to the MS Mail client. It worked fine for a while, then this morning, it seems to have 'lost' messages that were there and can no longer sync with AOL. It is probably more of an AOL issue, but I'm not going to fight that battle.

I have experienced trouble with AOL sync'ing from my Mac's, but usually they clear up with and account re-load.

Looks like the Admiral will just use the web client on the MS Surface . . . which is working fine.

Do you have someone in the valley that has high speed that would host a unit something like this.

TL-WA5210G - Welcome to TP-LINK

As long as you have a good connection at the host site and 'line of sight' it should work up to 52 KM+- with the right antennas.
