Windshield Advice...

Hi guys,

I am looking to replace my windshield on my 1964 Jupiter with a Walkthrew one. Some appear to be made for a flat surface, ( like the ones from the old open bow tri hulls ) and some appear to be made for a closed bow boat that have a slight curve to the bow.

Is this just an optical illusion ? I had a guy tell me they were all the same and all you had to do was get the right measurment for the width.

Is this correct ?

Many Thanks,

Here is a picture of my boat with my old windshield...

Me thinks a flat walk thru will fit very well. measure the width from the back curve to the other side back curve it would be the total width. good hunting.

Nice looking boat, I would say lay a straight edge across the bow where you want the windshield and see if it is level. this will give you a good idea how a straight one will fit.

Well I have a little bit of experience in this area. I thought I was going to have to fab something up to be handle the curve of my bow on my Jupier but when I put the new windshield up on there and bowed it out a bit, it sat almost flat. When I dropped some machine screws into it, it sucked it up to perfect.

That windshield is gorgeous. However, I don't know if those curved sections will help or hinder it conforming to the bow. I think it may not help. Mine has those wings and they are hinged allowing a lot of adjustment.

That turned out pretty good

I have a windshield from a trihull that was bought for parts, and I'm with out a windshield on my jetstar.

I thought I would have to rig something up for sure. :)

Isn't a Jet Star a 14'? That might have more a curve to it. I guess you'll have to plop is up on there and see.

Yuppers, and we got it on last night. :D

I had to give it more of a point on the front, and the middle window closes but not perfectly, but It looks good. :)

I also have a new steering system I'll play with later down the road.

I'll try and get some pictures before I put it away again.

Yea I got mine on yesterday also, Like yours I had to kick out the front a little more than I like and the middle section is tighter at the bottom than it is at the top. I decided to just screw it shut so I wouldn't have any problem out on the water.

It also sits lower than I like, ( probably because of the angle for having to kick it out ) when I sit down the top of the windshield is about level with my sholders. That being said, I did make a new bench seat that may be a little higher than normal. Not sure if I am gonna like it.

But it still has more room than a jet ski :)

Love to see pictures of you window ( and of other guys walk threw window )

Re: Windshield Advice...

Looks good :)

My seats were made by the old man I bought the boat from, they sit really high, top of my list to make new boxes and lower.

Looking at your boat reminds me of all the projects my boat needs, and somebody removed the little bench mounts on the side of the boat...

I also need to refinish my dash, the wood is in decent condition but it looks weathered, and I still have the orignial steering wheel all cracked and rusted.

The dash is the best part of my boat, I can't believe that they covered it up. I am not sure what kind of wood it is but we just went over it with Oak stain and a Satin finish clear coat.

I wish I had an orginal steering wheel. Can you tell me how tall those bench mounts were from the floor ? I am Just wondering how tall Starcraft made their bench seats...

Re: Windshield Advice...

I want to get rid of my wheel, it looks bad, and it's missing the center cap.

And what I have left of the mounts, they are low, maybe 6 inches?
After getting the windsheild on I think if I used the orignal hight I think my head would poke over the windshield maybe just a bit, maybe not.

I have a large list of things I want to do, and finally having a windshield makes me want to get started ASAP, it feels like I finally have something that looks and feels like a boat instead of a floating motor with a few seats and steering wheel. :D

soon to have dual engines thanks to a $50 local find that needed a carb rebuild and a new impeller, next summer is going to rock.

I also had to make my own engine controls, and on ebay I finally got the proper controls for cheap, and a electric starter.

It's starting to come together finally. :D

For my dash I'm thinking about popping it out and sanding it down to see if I can clean it up and stain it like yours, I love wood grain. :)

One thing I like about the way I got the boat is the paint job, it's decent and has a nice color skeem, very dark green (Black with a slight green tint) on the bottom, top, and keel, and off white on the sides.
