I am wondering what kind of oil to put in my Johnson 70 hp 4 stroke (2002) for winter storage.Do I need to use the Johnson brand or can I use another type of oil and if so, what kind?

Re: Winter storage

(EDIT)

Whoops, didn't pay attention that it was a 4-stroke. Still, If you feel more comfortable using Johnsons brand, then I would use it just for the winter. Mobil 1 is also very popular among the more educated people on this board. Don't forget to use Stabil to take care of the fuel. Without it, it may go sour and gum up the carbs. Fill the fuel tank(s) to prevent condensation, too.

rmyer, since it's a four stroke , Iwould use a designated 4stroke oil. Bmc has oils specifically for that purpose. Definitely use sta-bil in your gas and run the motor for a while before storing . Do not run the motor dry of gas. Full carbs with sta-bil in it will not dry out and foul the jets or passageways. nevjb
