Re: Winterization questions

Thanks don added my signature . Yes I have the manual you provided me with a few months bak but forgot to save the drive manual you gave me. When I went back through the thread with the 4shared link it said the drive manual had been removed I was just curious as to if you could repost the manual for my drive?

Ok I will try the link again, I do not know the service history on the impellar on the boat as it is new to me this season. Would it be a good idea to go ahead and change it? My boat had no problems running hot, an flows water well. But I'm all about preventative maintenance.? If so what all parts will I need just the impellar kit, or what? I remember reading something else fails in the drive as well like the housing or whatnot for the impellar?

also, are the sierra impeller kits good or should i order genuine mercruiser/quicksilver parts? can i find mercruiser parts on iboats?

Re: Winterization questions

I'd replace it. Since you don't know if it was brand new last season, or if it's 5+ years old, and you have the drive off anyway, to me replacing it is a no brainer. You don't want to wait until you see cooling problems do it now and get a baseline to go forward with.
Your choice on brands, I know iboats can sell you what you need.

Get your outdrive service manual if you don't have one yet, and that will show you what is involved, and what you'll need.
If you can understand and perform the steps to correctly pull the drive, then you should have the skills to split the drive and replace the impeller.

Third, where can I find a quality alignment tool without spending a fortune? Are the ones you find on eBay etc acceptable?

I bought a very nice alignment rod on amazon for 27.99 plus 20.00 shipping. That's about the going rate for the low-priced versions that you can also find on ebay. I mic'd mine out when I got it and it was perfect. Did a fine job on the alignment, too.:D

Yes, I need to find the manual for my drive, that website above does not seem to want to cooperate with me and if it does it's either too small or too big. Anyone have one I can download? I appreciate all the help guys, I've got everything I need listed as well as an outline to follow for each step an watched impeller replacements as well as drive removal on YouTube over and over again. so I pretty much know what's involved and I do have mechanical aptitude from workig on cars, just never any I/O experience so I like to haves manuals to follow as well.

Also, don, I looked through that PDF thanks for supplying that. I had a few questions though. It says to apply perfect seal to the small hole gasket for the water pump. Does that mean apply it to the bottom that mates to the drive, or that top that mates to the other gasket?

And when putting it back in it says to apply blue rtv to the water damn if it's metal. What is that part and Is it under the gaskets or pump or what?

The lower surface is all it's really needed on. The housing tends to loose paint and corrode making it harder to seal. The upper surface is against the new SS plate and seals fine.

You should have the rubber plug in your drive, it's just aft of the pump housing. Look at the last page of the impeller file I posted earlier.

I have read some people using rotella 15w-40 any other recommendations or cautions. I know synthetic is a no no any others?

Look over in the Non Repair forum at the hundred or so "what oil" threads. Should keep you busy for many hours.
