Just garaged my boat for the winter. Do I need to do anything to the 1989 30HP Johnson outboard I have on the boat? All I've done is disconnect the fuel lines! HELP!

Re: winterize?

For carburated engines:

1- add fuel stabilizer to fuel and run the engine to get stabilized fuel into the carburator.
2- decarb the engine if you have not done it in a while.
3- "fog" the engine, by spraying fogging oil into the running engine, per instructions on can.
4-Change oil in lower unit, this guarantees that there will be no water in the lower unit, which would freeze and crack the gearcase.
5- Remove the prop, clean the shaft and apply coating of grease, put prop back on, or take it to get reconditioned if needed.
6- Remove battery and store it in appropriate location, charge battery every 3-4 weeks.
7- Make sure boat has no water trapped in livewell or drain lines.
