Winterizing an Evinrude 2001 75 hp 2 stroke

Ok, here is the deal. I have looked at several sites and several manuals about winterizing my outboard and have ran across several different suggestions on how to do this so i went to a shop to ask and here is what they said.......... "Run the motor to operating temps for about 15 minutes to clear out any sand, silt and so forth. Next, change the lower unit oil. And lastly you want to fog it."

Ok, all of this is no big deal, but the following comment is what had me confused...........Dealer Shop Tech "You dont have to worry about running the anifreeze since an outboard drains completely". Is this so?

That's the second time inside a couple of weeks I have seen the question about using antifreeze.

Yes they drain if vertical provided any drain holes there may be around the gearcase are not blocked,
Just one or two final turns of the flywheel will ensure any water that may have been trapped in the water pump drains also.

There may be a very small benefit in running antifreeze through. It contains corrosion inhibitors which might just be beneficial compared with leaving its insides wet with just plain water.
On the other hand if that were so there would be someone selling us an inhibiting solution for our engines.

Man! That is good to know. I thought that the shop tech was crazy when he told me that. I had checked out everything that I could and thought that I would come to where I have recieved the best advice. Thanks Vic.S!
