Winterizing Question

I winterized my 9.6 Sea King today. Changed lower unit grease, ran seafoam through it etc. In previous years I have always ran the gas out of it and kept it indoors in a climate controlled environment.
This year I am going to leave it on the boat. It is under a carport.
My question is this:
I have been told the best thing to do is leave the fuel line connected to the motor with sea foam mixed in the gas. Is this a good thing to do?
Second I was told that I should leave the sea foam/gas mix in the carb bowl (not run out).
Last How long does it take the water to drain out of a small outboard before it's safe to leave out in freezing temps? I ran it on a flush muff today and don't want a freeze up. This is a great little motor and I want to care for it as best I can. Thanks in advance for all info.

Re: Winterizing Question

Dave, maybe find that little drain plug on the carb and drain it out. With the plug out, pump your primer bulb a few times to "flush" float chamber with fresh fuel, then replace plug. Store motor in upright(normal running position) and all the water will run out. Good Luck!

Re: Winterizing Question

If your carport is open and dark You may want to have a second thought on leaving that handy little motor out where someone may be tempted.
I lost a 7year old 50 hp Merc in a wide open driveway between 2 houses.
They put it on a 2 wheel dolly and dragged it through several yards
I followed the trail in the snow.I don't think your little 9.6 would be much of a challenge.
