Winterizing.

Hey everyone, I own a 40hp mariner outboard and was wondering the best way to store my motor for the winter? What sort of process should I go through to unsure a good working motor in the spring? Thanks!

add a stabilizer, sta bil or startron or whatever
top off tank
run motor to temp, then fog
remove plugs, spray fogging oil in
return plugs
drain lower unit
refill lower unit, with new gaskets
spray entire motor w/ silicone or equivalant when cool
leave motor stored in the down position
remove batteries and store on wood w/ trickle charger
put moth balls in 2 tins in the boat and cover the boat

in the spring,,,well ask if your not sure

That was a good list. You might want to change from a trickle charger to a battery maintainer that only charges as needed and if you give your batteries a shake once a month you'll keep them from building up directly under the plate which will eventually short it out.

If you live in freezing temps you can also wrap a water heater blanket around it as a little added insurance. It's more of a warm fuzzy feeling than anything else since the water should be all drained out but notice I used the word should...

Hummm,,, Water Heater blanket 25.00, lower unit 1700.00... Powerhead 3000.00... Easy math..
