Who out there wipes down their boat after Retrieval from the water?

Lately I have been wipeing down my boat right after I pull it out the water with a shamey. Is this a sign of OCD or does everyone do this? I have even seen people using a spray bottle and spray and wipe. What are they spraying with?

Thanks.

I'm one of those anal nuts, too. After a good pre-season wax, all I do is wipe the boat down with a terrycloth towel, to include wheels, motor, etc (whatever got wet).

Doing this, and my fishing buddies don't mind helping, keeps the boat finish pristine and looking newly waxed all season.

It's a good practice....takes 10 extra minutes, and your boat will like it!!

Bottom line is my Wife thought I was Nuts. So I must prove to her that I'm not the only freak with a boat

I always wipe down the boat exterior and interior with a wet and then dry cloth when I get home. Nice and clean for the next outing.

Maybe I'm different...I use quick detailer and wipe down before a trip. If we've been camping on busy weekend lake we frequent can get red Georgia mud stirred up and boat will come out with a nice orange bathtub ring. Then, I'll give it a quick wash when we get home.

Im really a Freak. I wipe down after pulling the boat out of the Water.

A day before going to the Lake I wash the exterior and wipe down the interior. I want to boat to look nice. I guess its the Pride of Boat ownership.

Re: Wipeing down Boat

We usually trailer our fiberglass boat home after each use. We always rinse off the exterior - especially from the waterline down - when we get home. We use one of those car wash bristle brushes that go on the end of a garden hose for this. Occasionally, we might use a little soap as well. After rinsing it, we don't bother drying it and just back it into the garage.

We've never waxed the boat or done anything else to the exterior. People still comment on the "new boat," so this must work. It also must say something about the quality of the gel coat used by the manufacturer. IMO, the hardest thing on a boat finish is to leave the boat sitting outside in the sun and weather.

Now, the aluminum boat is another matter. It could spend decades outside without being used. Then, one could launch it and it would still float as well as the last time. It would look a bit oxidized but would still be fine.

Re: Wipeing down Boat

i don't wipe down at the ramp. the waters sometimes too slimy with who knows what. so i don't wipe it off cause it looks like it'd just smear around. or, the waters clean enough and don't leave me slimy, just with water spots... i don't wipe that off either..

i do wash my boat with boat soap and then shamy with a water spot remover, generally after each outing, within a day or two..

50/50 solution of water and vinegar is GREAT on hard water stains (also cheep and friendly to the environment) alot of people I know do their wipe downs with it. While my boat is at the slip it's about all I use (again the environmentally friendly thing).

One thing I've noticed is that a white boat requires a lot less washing and polishing than a dark colored boat.

Re: Wipeing down Boat

I wipe my boat down with microfiber clothes right after coming up the ramp. Use a wet one followed by an almost dry one. Get a compliment every time I'm out on how good she looks. After coming off the Ohio and Muskingham though I had to really clean it.

The lake I normally boat in does not leave any dirt on the boat so it cleans up nice by just drying it to avoid water spots. Tonight will be the first night it's not in the garage since I put it in after winterizing last fall. It was 10 o'clock when I got back from the lake and I'm probably going back out first thing in the morning and backing it in takes me time sometimes.
