Bought an older Cobalt and the remote switch for the search light no longer works. I have hooked power to a new toggle switch and can turn the light on and another toggle switch that moves the light to one side but not sure how to make it move back to the other side, somehow the + - can be reversed? I can do it by hooking power booster + - to each wire and when I reverse cables it comes back. Can I wire a toggle to do that? I know confusing. Thx for any help.

Need to know the brand light, how many wires are coming from the light, and their colors.

It may be possible to install an "on-off-on" toggle switch, or a "momentary on-off-momentary on" toggle that would give the results you are seeking.

Yep, you need a DPST switch.. basically 2 on positions, and your golden

Re: Wire Remote Boat Search Light?

Trying to upload pic. ANYWAYS...1 White Power Wire

Orange and Grey go to light have it hooked up basic toggle On/Off
Purple+ and Green- makes it go up
Hook it up opposite makes it go down

Off White/Cream+ and Dull Yellow- makes it go to the left
Hook it up opposite and it goes the other way

So when I hook the 2 wires to ground(green and dull yellow)and touch other individual wires(off white/cream or purple)with white power it moves it up or sideways depending on which one I touch and have to unhook ground and use them(green or dull yellow)as power to go the other way or down. Thx

Who manufactured the light? You may need a joy-stick type switch for left and right, up and down. But without knowing what light you have, there is no way of knowing anything about it.

How to Post pictures http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=468676

You have to post links of the picture itself, not the thumbnails.

I just did one of these. Talk about a head scratcher. The joystick switch above will not work - this one will though - http://www.iboats.com/Directional-S...3697770--session_id.414005140--view_id.166186

From what I remember, there was one hot wire and one ground wire to the switch. The other wires control the up/down, right/left functions. The switch reverses the polarity to the motors for the different functions. The bulb should be a spot/flood combo. A spdt switch will work for that, but I believe that the switch I provided the link for includes that switch, along with a rheostat switch to control the movement speed.

For what it's worth, I could never find a brand on my light either. The Jabsco switch on the link looks exactly like what I had. I wish I would have seen this before I wasted hours "adapting" a switch to make my light work.

You have no idea how much this helps. Thx
Don't be so sure about that! I'm still missing the hair I pulled out! I had some time to do some more digging this morning - see if this stuff helps you out also.

The pdf is faded and hard to read, but if I remember correctly, the wire colors matched my light. Good luck with your project - I know it can be done - you just have to stick with it.

no reason the joy stick switch surgested by bubba would not work as there is 4 off single pole double throw micro switchs so when wire correctly it would work fine. the iboat one is nicer as it has speed control, light switch and its already panel mounted which is a bonus but it proberly works on the same concept for the joystick

Re: Wire Remote Boat Search Light?

I told a buddy of mine and he thinks an ON OFF ON switch will work. Just hook to top right corner of toggle and jumper wire to bottom left. Top left bottom right, power to middle prong ground it and away it goes. Flip switch up goes one way OFF down the other way. Sound right to you guys or are we missing something? Pretty easy hook up if it works and my light is on a separate basic toggle switch.

Re: Wire Remote Boat Search Light?

you could control one directional motor either side to side or the up and down with a dual on/off/on switch the same that is used for the bow/stern light. with the six terminals you hook one side of the motor to top right and bottom left then the other side to top left and bottom right. the mistake i see in your post is the middle terminal right will need be positive the middle terminal left will need to be negative.

Re: Wire Remote Boat Search Light?

Ok - you're reviving brain cells from the dead! I ended up making mine work almost the way you proposed. I believe I had seven wires going to the light. Three were for the bulb, so disregard those, which left four wires. Just to make things simpler, lets just work with two wires, say red and green ( I don't remember what color wire did what, you're going to have to figure that out on yours) that move the light up and down. There is not a separate ground wire to the motors, so you have to provide +12 to red and -12 to green to make the light go up. To go down, you have to reverse it, + 12 to green and -12 to red. To make this work, you need a momentary dpdt switch (6 terminals on back, spring loaded to return to center, off position) Connect your red and green to the center terminals, and +12 to one top and -12 to the other. put a jumper wire from the top left to the bottom right, and another jumper from the top right to the bottom left. The light should now go up and down.

You will need another switch, wired the same way with the remaining two wires to make the light move left/right.

I still think it would be a lot easier to buy the right switch, stick it on, and be done with the whole project.

There is no question what should be done but McGuyver was my favorite show and I'm a cheap bastard. Thx for your time and I will show these to my friend and see what we can do. Will send pics of results.
