wireing a wash down pump relay or contura switch

im preparing to wire my boat . i have two par max style pumps each 2 wire i think they draw around 11 amps , i also have a reverso oil change unit and some tungston spreader lights . im thinking these might be to much amp draw voltage to try and run a wire from my dash all the way back to the transom were they are mounted , im considering useing relays on each pump with the dash mounted switch only operating the relay . is this overkill a must or a good idea

Pumps can momentarily draw lots more than the rating amperage if the get something stuck in them. Relays would be a good idea.

Relays only add complexity to something that otherwise is a simple circuit. If you size the wire correctly and you'll have no problem.

i think i have 10 guage umm , 18 foot run of wire , gotta look this up

yea 18 feet x2 would equal 36 feet , id have to run 6 guage from the switch to the pump , i think a relay set up would be better . any other ways of doing this

What chart are you using?
Mine lists 10 amp @40' round trip at 8-10 gauge.

pump said 11 amp draw ,so say 15 amp wire to be safe at 3% loss ;http://www.marinco.com/page/three-percent-voltage , after reading both charts i think the 10 guage would have been ok , the relays are on there way though . project overkill here i come, one pump is a sensor max 17 , which draws 12 amps ,the other is a par max 4 which is saying 6 amps ,then a reverso
