We are wiring the Starter Motor on our Mercrusier. It is a 1985(ish) Short Block Chevy 350 5.7L V8. There are three (3) wires to the Starter Motor. Two Red and One Yellow. The big Red one comes from the battery. The smaller red and yellow come from a solenoid. We have the shop manual but the printing, by the time it gets to this wiring section, is so small it is difficult to see what goes where.

One of us says that the big red wire from the battery goes to the large post and the two other wires (one red and one yellow) BOTH go to the "S" terminal.

The other one of us says that the big red wire AND the smaller red wire both go to the large post and the yellow wire goes to the "S" terminal by itself.

Who's right? I have included a diagram that shows how I see the choices.

Most have a battery cable to the starters large post, a red wire(main system power) and an orange wire(alternator feed to battery)
The smaller yellow/red stripe goes to the small lug closest to the block. If there is a purple/yellow stripe it goes to the small lug furthest away from the block
