Hello to all and thanks to everyone who contributes valuable info for us D.I.Y's. My question is that I want to wire both the Rule 700gph Aerator pump (5.0 amp fuse)with the single LED underwater light to a single on-off-on 6 blade switch and 16ga wiring. I have studied the diagrams (Nav/Anchor diagram) and want to make sure that I do not overload the LED light and need to replace because of its location (below deck and caulked/screwed in). The "up" position is for pump only and "down" is for both the pump and light. Question #1 If the pump is overloaded for some reason and wants to blow the fuse, can I keep it from blowing the light? Again, thanks for your input and expertise. Diagrams always welcome, sorry if previously discussed. Did some research with no results.

Re: Wiring Aerator pump with LED Livewell light

You probably have a 10 amp fuse on the line supplying power to the switch. Use a 5 amp or 7.5 amp fuse on the line going to the pump and maybe a 1 amp or 2.5 amp fuse on the line going to the light. I'm just guessing at these amounts you'll have to make sure they are adequate, just put a smaller fuse on the line going to the pump than what is on the line going to the switch.

It sounds like you think somehow you'll blow out the light itself from the pump pulling too much power? Using the DPDT switch basically creates two separate circuits so you don't have to worry about that. Even on the same circuit you wouldn't have to worry about that as long as they were wired in parallel. The light is only going to pull as much power as it needs. Just make sure you don't connect it to too many volts. I'm not sure about this, but I believe that even if wired in series the pump wouldn't blow out the light, but rather the light would keep the pump from running at full power.

If I were going to wire up a light like that I would just put a switch near the livewell to turn it on when needed instead of messing with the aerator switch.

Shouldn't even discuss wiring it in series.

Thanks for inputs. I do have the option of putting light on another switch but was trying to have the light on with the pump (switch down position) for night time use and the pump ONLY (switch up position) for daytime use. Any other thoughts? Appreciate it

led lights have a small amp draw and nothing the pump does should affect the lights.
make sure the + and - are hooked up correctly to the lights and you should have no problems.
silvertips has a nice wiring diagram for the 6 pin switch under sticky notes at the top of the electrical forum just change the design to suit your needs.

Thanks for the input everyone. I did review Silvertip's diagram and will implement it hopefully this weekend.
