Hi, I've got an 84 3.8l omc. 2bbl It wont idle with the crank case vent tubes against the arrestor. It just slowly dies off.
Im thinking Idle mixture. ??
Thanks

does it look like you have steam coming out those tubes with them off?

Ya there was some -- slight -- steamy - white ish looking vapor / smoke venting from them. Smelled rich to me.
So I went ahead and checked and reset the idle mixture screws to normal ... 2 1/2 turns out. Runs fine now. Its a new boat to me, from a hunderd + miles from me. Different operating environment. The screws were at like 4 turns out.
What do ya think about whats venting? I didnt check to see if it was still venting like that after running on lake after adjusting.

Keep an eye on the oil just in case you have water intrusion in the engine.
4 turns out was way too rich. The slight steam may have just been condensation in the crank case from sitting. It should clear up after a good run on the water.A little blow by out of those hoses is pretty common.

Change the arrestor and PCV valve out first. Sounds like it is restricted.
