View attachment 160708 ....Ive only gapped plugs that have the lip that drops down, this is more of a glow plug for a two stroke. otherwise let me know
sorry:redface: have only seen those in a text book, am just trying to throw ideas your way, sounds like its trying to start but does'nt , makes it sound like fuel problem, try introducing fuel manualy to the intake thru carbs as previously suggested, see if it starts that way could be not getting fuel, happened to me and i discovered my fuel line was not clipping to the motor all the way, it was clipping on but the catch was not holding it tight enough to open the schrader type valve in the fitting, bulb would get hard but fuel wouldn't pass, it was pressurizing the line but not getting to the carbs

Here is the problematic piece. One of the ground pins is snapped and just spins so i cut the wire, going to strip it and put a new connector on but need this piece. What do i call it?
spent too long pondering your problem before finishing last post  i see you solved the issue i beleive that is a starter solinoid / relay and very well would cause your issue

Thanks Brian and everyone else for the diagnostic help, would have taken me days or a boat mechanic($$$) to figure it out. Ill let you know how it goes when the solenoid comes in on monday.

Starter solenoid won't cure the no-spark issue. It only provides power to the starter motor to spin it. If the motor was turning over as you say and you didn't have spark then you have other issues.

Did you check for spark on any of the other cyl's?

There is 2 grounds that come from the ignition module to the solenoid that connect. I think that must have something to do with it because there is a broken piece that wasn't making contact. The starter has its own separate ground.

some solenoids also disconect power to accesseries and send bypass current to the coil during start up

Are you sure motor is in neutral? Did you check kill switch?

throttle is definetly in the neutral position. I don't know where there is a kill switch on my set up. There is the throttle button on the throttle lever which can be pushed in or out.

Re: Wont run, I quit.

Disconect the black/ yellow wire from the switchbox and test for spark at the plugs with a timming light with ALL the plugs grounded. Hook the light to battery and the pickup wire from one plug wire to the next and see if the timming light will light up. If the plugs will fire then your trouble will be in the electrial as a ground is being put to the switchbox and should not be. If there is a wire from the selonid to the switchbox that could be your problem as th should not be there. The plugs are what should be in the motor with just a surface gap. Look on the control for a small toggle or push pull switch that should have a coiled cord on it that would be the kill switch. There is also a mercury tilt switch on the side of the motor that will kill the spark when the motor is tilted in the up position. Depending on the control you have you will have to do certian things inorder for the motor to start. A picture of the control would help, as we would know what one you have. You realy need to get a wireing diagram for that motor to understand just what is to go where. As for the button on the throttle lever, If it is square and in the center of the pivot it disconects the shift cables and allows you to push the lever to the center of the boat and forward and allows the carbs to open up and advances the timming some so the motor will start and stay running.
Don't give up yet as you will know alot more and have a greater satisfaction when you do get it to running. Leave it set for awhile and have a few cold drinks and relax. It realy helps.

Re: Wont run, I quit.

Found a dead wire on the power pack that was severely rotted so took the flywheel off and spliced/soddered in a new one. Also replaced the solenoid. Still no spark. Keep the ideas coming, just got around to messing with it today....sorry for the late answers. If any pictures are needed of any setups i can do that.
