Won't start after de-winterizing

I have a 120 mercruiser on an Alpha One stern drive which was running ok when I winterized it this year. During the winter I put in new plugs, wires, points (gap set correctly), new oil & filter, stern drive water pump. Went to start it up, would crank but will not start. I have spark at all cylinders and fuel at the carb. I thought the plugs might be fouled with fogging oil so I took them out and cleaned them with ether. also cranked the engine while the plugs were out to clear the cylinders. still nothing. I always thought that if you had spark and fuel it should start at least. I'm stumped.

Pour a couple of tablespoons full of gas into the carb and try it again. Is the choke closed?

Found Problem

Found Problem

Talk about absent minded, I left the rotor out. Duh. Now I have a different problem. Going by the seloc manual I switched the timing order because I thought some how it had already been switched. Now it is laboring to start, so I know the order is off. according to the stamp on the engine the order is 1-3-4-2. The problem is I don't know what the number one position is on the rotor? I'm sure once I get the order back to where it used to be (should have wrote it down), it will fire right up.

First mistake. You didn't have spark like you said you did in your original post. You just assumed you did...... See what that got you.

Going by the seloc manual I switched the timing order

Second mistake. Using those aftermarket paper wasters instead of the OEM service manual.

All you have to do is get #1 piston up on TDC on the compression stroke. look at the rotor, and that is where #1 plug wire should go. Forget the books, then go in the direction of distributor rotation and put the wires on in the proper order.

Got an oem manual, and decided the Clymer was no good.
I tryed to use it as a knee pad, as stated by "the Dude", but spine glue was bad, and pages blew all over my back yard. Soooo, have a toilet in my shop.
The pages clogged it up........
So, it is good for????????????????
