My boat came with dimensional lumber. Except bulkheads and transom and a few bilge pieces. Deck basically anything that is big and flat. All plywood fell apart. All dimensional lumber was just wet but still wood. With the exception of where the black mold got it.

So when dry it may be stronger But in use it cant be stronger if it isn't wood anymore.

Just my observations as mine came apart. I used the same putting it together as what it had.

As stated earlier. Good wood is more expensive. Plywood is cheaper. That is why it is used.
