No, this is not an offer. My wife is thinking about trying one of these, and , to say the least, I am skeptical. Apparently there are all these at home data entry kind of jobs and I know absolutely nothing about the subject. A little extra money coming in would sure be handy, and her working outside the house is not possible. Personal opinion is I should try to pick up a little more overtime, but that's not always available. Does anyone here know anything about these outfits?

Re: Work at home computer jobs ???

From what I have ever heard about any work-at-home businesses, they are mostly take-your-money scams, that offer lots of sizzle, but very little steak.

I hear these type of commercials on satellite radio all day long. If they are that great, I wonder why everyone is not doing them.

Most data entry jobs have been gone for 25 years. What kind is your wife looking to do?

If she really wants a home-based business, she should research and develop her own. There are businesses like medical billing, but they are pretty saturated, but hey, this is America.

Paying money for a canned work-at-home business, should be pursued with much caution, IMO. The people selling the businesses are the ones who make the money.

Good luck.

I'm a network engineer and have worked in the computer field for over 20 years. Most of the "make money at home" advertised on the Internet is a scam, but there are a few ways it works.

Some companies have telecommuter positions. Most notibly are telemarketers. You can make money and you can lose your shirt on them.

Medical transcription is another. My mother makes about 2k a month at it, but she also has years of experience. She has to have a good computer, high speed internet, and a VoIP phone which are out of pocket expenses.

There are no get rich quick schemes that make anyone rich other than the guy you're paying to tell you how to get rich quick. Thoroughly investigate any company or offer before signing up.

If this is a data entry type of job...I don't think you will have many problems. There is lots of this out there. A lot of it (most?) is based on what she produces. So if she is fast and stays focused there is no reason she wouldn't succeed.
It used to be that working at home (unsupervised!!! what the?) used to be quite a lark. However time has shown that certain people excel at it way above what some mundane office environments offer. The work is performance based. It isn't hard to understand 4/6/or 8 hours worth of work performance.
If the work has her trying to sell, market, etc...thats a different story with probably little chance of success. I don't think many people last doing that kind of work.
Regardless, these days just about every household needs both people to bringing something to the table financially....so give it a whirl.

A co-worker of mine's wife does medical transcription (I think that what it would be called) at home. She gets a tape recorder that a doctor spoke all his patient notes into and she listens to it and types it in. Don't know what kind of money she's making but she's been doing it a couple months now and it's legit. So there are legit jobs out there but MANY are scams.

I have always wanted to start an Ebay store myself, or something to that effect. I had an offer to start a Ebay business with an old man but he wasn't to convincing and didn't want to share the profits like he should of. My brother and his wife were doing a little part time job over the internet selling washing powders, and different stuff, they actually did it for a while but I am not for sure how well it paid or what all was involved. I wished I could find a legitimate online job myself something to get me through until I can see about getting disability or partial disability, or get some help to go to collage. I also seen a web editor or auditor positions on the internet, checking web sites out and placing them in and tagging them for the proper categories for search engines to find the site. There is also a site for American Consumer Opinion that is supposed to pay you for doing surveys, but I have yet to see a check in the mail.

Remember the old "stuffing envelopes" scam? Scammers would say: "Get rich stuffing envelopes, send $15.95 to receive information!" When one received the info, it would be nothing more than a piece of paper saying to scam the next person like you just got scammed. The scam has been around for years and years. Nothing has changed.

Just arent many things you can do from home to make cash if you dont want to make something for sale. Like cookies or candles etc...You could make a bunch of wind toys or maybe some kind of craft etc. You could write a book if you are good enough to get it published. Another idea is to keep kids in a small daycare.

My wife agrees with keeping ALL small kids in a daycare far away from here. She lives by the matchbook motto: "Keep away from children"

My wife does medical billing from home. Her boss paid for the set-up and equipment, sans PC.

She used to work at his office but quit after our third child. This seriously wreaked havoc on his golf game so the "work at home" gig was part of the deal for her to come back. She has admitted to being bored alot and misses the social interaction of an office though.

Try checking the local classifieds for WOH jobs. Home-town businesses with an "easy to track them down" address might be less risky. imho.

Although it's a seasonal position, how about setting yourself up in Maine's largest industry? The Yard Sale.

Must be a lot of traffic through your part of Waldo Co. in the summer.
