I was given a boat it's an early 80's campion 10-20 foot has an omc chevy V8 it is missing the 800 hydro-mechanical leg

the boat seems solid it sat for a while but was running i have to fire it up yet but if it's running decent is it worth looking for a leg or maybe the cost is too much for an older boat?

what kind of hp would the V8 have?

I have a 17 ft with the 165 in it and always wanted a V8 and bigger boat, but have not been around any with the older omc V8 in them to see how they go?

I'm no expert but if the boat is in good condition you might want to look for a junk boat with a good outdrive to swap on it. Good Luck.

Well......the boat was free so i would go over the engine good and make sure it runs with the water hose hooked to it.Then if the floor and transom are solid it may be worth finding a used lower off of Ebay..
I would not invest a ton of money in an old OMC powered boat with a stringer drive.
You could always pull the engine, sell it and sell the trailer..
Plus its really fun to watch the guys at the land fill crush the old boat...;)

OMC or MC the power plant is not the issue it is the drive. If the engine runs good and you can find a drive cheap enough it might be worth fixing and selling.

A little bird told me....

iBoats "vendor 199" is about to release a conversion to change an OMC over to an "industry standard drive" in the very near future. If your not in a big hurry I am told the plan is to have it availble for the "winter project" market. ;)

Interesting Bubba....Will it cover the huge hole left from the Stringer drive?
That i would like to see...;)

I know of one company talking of that, but for a cobra, not stringer mount
